headers vs. y pipe

another age old comparison. the thought of having headers installed has always been on my mind. the roadblock to that is cali smog test.

headers are pretty permanent, as far as installation is concerned. y pipes on the other hand is simply remove and replace.

there is also the cost difference and the power difference.

as far as performance is concerned, I am pretty satisfied with my max. I dont plan on doing anything in the near future aside from this. I dont need to squeeze out more hp than it already has, after all, it IS a sedan.

with the headers, and just the headers plus an air intake, it has been known to pass with just these mods.

with the y pipe, you can always remove it and replace the old cats, and flex section just to be sure.

given the money, the know how or someone else's know how of installation of headers, but yet the infraction of cali smog checks(and I DO believe cali has the most stringent in the nation), what would you go for?

edit: money would not be the issue for me, know how and patience would be the issue for the headers. y pipe seems like a piece of cake, and cheaper.
