I try not to let my wife drive my car at all cost. She just doesn't have any respect for my sh*t. I let her borrow my car once and I had asked for her to park away from everyone else. I called her up and she said she forgot, knowing that my maxima is like my baby. Who here lets their girlfriend or wife drive their maxima...

My wife has never driven my Max even though she can drive a 5spd. If she took my car for a day, the rims would be scratched by the evening and the doors would have a couple of dings. Hubcaps (and Honda) only for her.

try not to...
But she sometimes needs a bigger car to get groceries and stuff as she drives a 5spd Z3. But with her driving record (not pretty) I worry...a lot!

Whatta bunch of wimps! I'd prefer my wife not drive my SE 5sp. 'cuz she's kinda messy with coffee, etc. But if she's gotta do it (her car's acting up, low on gas, whatever), I say OK. She prefers her Saturn 5sp. anyway, 'cuz it's HER car. I have no problem at all letting my 17-year-old daughter drive the Max (she likes it better than the Saturn) even though she got sideswiped while driving it. Hey--it mostly wasn't her fault, and the other guy willingly paid the $800 bodyshop repair bill!

I get to drive a SC'ed 97 Max, while she gets to drive my 2k... I would have to say that is a pretty fair trade.

I think my wife has driven the car only once since I got it two months ago. I'm sure as time goes by, I'll loosen the embargo. My girlfriend, on the other hand... well that's another story. Wait, did I say that?!

I hear you bro...
But I'm looking on the bright side, with the way that my wife drives (slow and careful), who else between the 2 of us can be better to break in the first 1000 miles...

Speed...I need speed!

Essentially never.
When she (my wife) is a passenger she complains about me making her walk across the parking lots. Saying I worry more about dings than her comfort. With that level of uncaring how can I give her the car? I don't share her cosmetics, she is not sharing my Maxima. She eats and drinks in her minivan. I don't permit chewing gum in my Maxima.

That's funny. My wife refers to all cars as "tin cans" and doesn't really take too much care of them.

My wife can drive my car when she wants/needs to but since I lowered it, made it louder, put on 18's, she's not much interested bc she knows she can't drive worth a damn and doesn't want to damage it. Funny how when we met she was driving a 535i 5 speed; damn I shoulda kept that car. Just couldn't afford to keep up with the maintenance.

She's a sport about it though. Just think when the Grand Voyager dies she wants a Suburban or a Fordzilla (Excursion); I'm trying to tell her it'll be difficult to manuever but oh well, look out!

Funny how the Max is in her name!

I will nevereverevereverever let my wife drive my max anymore. The last time she drove my max she curbed one of my 19" and it cost a b@$!h to get another and the time before that she didn't park away from everyone else(i am just like Tom) and someone dented my front fender and rear driver side door. Not to mention I let her drive my 97 SE and she somehow got that scratched up! Face it fellas, women don't deserve to drive your Max, it isn't a car, it is a work of art!!

She won't touch it
After my wife backed my 99SE into my 89 civic Si and a $500.00 deductible later, she won't touch the AE no matter how much I ask to take a test drive.

Ive had my Max for almost one year. Id say that my wife has driven my car 3 or 4 times. Each time it is an experience and I dont mean a good experience. She scares the crap out of me! Shes not the best driver in the world, although she thinks that she is. Im sure if I let her drive it more often, without me in the car, she would take it to the mall, to get her hair done,etc.....Im sure that my chrome rims would be scratched, Id have door dings on the car,my CDs would be missing.......One more thing. My car would turn into her Volvo 850. Her car is filthy inside and out. HER CAR IS A MESS! Needless to say, I dont like it when my wife drives my car!!

You guys are sooooooo funny. You ask if you would let your girlfriend or wife drive your max, well I won't let my boyfriend drive my max. He can't drive for crap. Everywhere we go I DRIVE. His driving is so terrible that I gave him the name of "flipper". He has actually flipped two of his previous cars and totaled both of them.

This is the best. He got in the car to go to work and 5 minutes later he returns to the house. Asked him what happened and he says that he hit the neighbors car. Asked him how did he do that. He responded that he was fighting off a mesquito and sideswiped the neighbors car. Now isn't that a winner. He will nevernevernevernever drive my car. He will always be the passenger.

Oh that's funny, my sides are hurting now.

Anyways,
My girl WILL NOT DRIVE MY CAR!!!! It's a 5spd. Besides, we just had bodywork done to her car less than a mo. ago and already she put 2 chips in the paint being carelss......ohhhhh noooo, not my car she wont.

I will say one thing in womens' defense, my mom taught me how to drive. She has a lead foot and skills. She can probably take many people on this board easily. She constantly races in her Saturn coupe and 740iL. She even beat a camaro with the Saturn.....it's not the car, it's the driver!

This is too funny!!! I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes to take care of their cars. My wife thinks I'm crazy. Her and friend decided yesterday to play an April Fools trick on my and say that while her friend was parking in our driveway she nicked my bumper. NOT cool at all, I almost lost it. I love the Neverevereververver part... TO FUNNY....

YOU PEOPLE ARE SOOO HALERIUOS!

MY GF DOESN'T EVEN KNOW I HAVE A CAR!!!!

Talking of women and wreckless driving, it reminds me off bottomed out sway bars/muffler and oil leak in my suspension! They just don't slow down at speed bumps and caused major wearing in my struts!

Mostly no. My wife has a couple of times when her car is down and out, but I tell her she has to park FAR away from everyone. She whines about it, but I remind her how she acted when she got her brand new 96 Accord V-6. Then she doesn't ***** as much. She prefers to drive hers because she says she doesn't feel so tense. She tells met that she feels like I am watching her every move - and she's right!

i'd let my gf drive my car only if she knew how to drive a 5 speed. she's generally a safe driver...never goes faster than the speed limit...sometimes i wish my gf knew how to drive my car so that she can just drop me off at my school..parking's really terrible at UCI...

I let my wife drive my '92 Max, so she took it when she left. Now I don't have to worry about her driving my 2k.

The first time my wife drove the Maxima, she said "that thing gets pretty good second gear rubber" She's always been a motor-head, so I guess I should count myself as lucky!

True, I'm not like most of you guys in this thread. My daughter likes my Max better than her mom's Saturn. I applaud her good taste, and am not gonna penalize her. If I'm not using the car and she needs it, she can take it. And I'm not going to baby my car unless it's sick and I'm trying to nurse it home or to the repair shop. When my new car gets its first little ding sitting in a parking lot, I'll say, "Oh, man. . ." but I won't have a heart attack about it. In the real world, entropy happens and paint chips. In olden days, when I was SCCA racing, I liked my car to look good, but it was much more important to me how fast it accelerated, how it handled, and how dependable it was. My priorities are the same now. If those priorities were important to my wife, she have a car like the Max. All she cares about is dependability, so we got her a Saturn. (So I wouldn't go nuts on the rare occasions when I had to drive it, we got the bigger engine and the 5sp.) If my daughter continues to prefer cars like the Max, then when she graduates from college five years from now, I'll give her something appropriate. Most of the guys on this thread seem to have different priorities, but that's why some people race cars and others enter their cars in car shows, and most people do neither. That's okay, but I must admit to be a bit put off by the overpowering sexism here. What are you guys REALLY afraid of?

Not very often!!
They whole reason I ended up with an auto 2k maxima is because my beautiful wife was tired of driving a 5 speed for 11 years. I have to agree with you guys though that women including my wife just don't pamper a beautiful car the way it deserves. Thus explaining the coffee stain on my carpet, 2 door dings, and a windshield nick (really kinda out of her control but never the less it happened while she was driving it). Since I've supercharged my car and bought her a 2001 Pathfinder LE she really doesn't drive my car too much anymore unless she's low on gas in her car. What is it with women and their inability to read a gas gauge when it says (E)mpty. Do they just run the car till its on fumes so that they can see fumes come out of our nostrils.

*AheM* this is "the wife" and i really think you guys are being silly about all this "my wife doesnt deserve to drive my beautiful maxima" crap. I understand you guys are really into your cars and everything but it makes me agged when MY husband dont wanna let me drive. TRUE i dont know how to drive stick BUT STILL he can teach me....he's not the only one paying for the car *PSHHHH* its half the wife's car too. I wanna be able to creep sometimes too and be able to challenge some guy racers out there. My friend lets his wife creep with his car and all the guy racers punk her a lot thinkin she dont know how to race and she smokes em all. Its a Del Sol running 13.4 (yes he has the ticket to prove it) ALL motor. Who says girls cant race? I know this one wants to learn....

Hey, if you're paying for the car too, it's not fair for you to be shut out! Last year I taught my then-16-year-old daughter to drive stick in a couple of hours on my max. (She would have picked it up sooner, but at that point she'd only had six hours behind the wheel of any kind of car--she still wasn't totally comfortable with steering, etc.) And one year and 18,000 miles later, the clutch is still fine. Tell your hubby you want him to teach you, or else when he's sleeping sometime, you'll take the car out and teach yourself! I imagine THAT will motivate him. Driving stick isn't rocket science. Early in the 20th century, ALL cars were stick and people weren't any smarter or more dexterous than they are now. In those days, of course, men didn't want women to drive, or go to college, or vote. . . Or wait, is that THESE days? . . .
I would be (and am) very cautious about street racing, however. If you can manage to afford it, racing on a track is a lot of fun, and is much less likely to injure or kill non-participants.

I dunno, it just seems to come naturally to me to disagree with (almost) everyone in this thread. Well, as Ray Davies of the Kinks (a '60s band, you squirts) titled one of his songs, "I'm not like everybody else"!
MY wife always fills the tank when the gauge is at midpoint. I tell her, "You're wasting a lot of time buying gas when you could be doing other things." But she never listens to me--kinda like you guys! I, on the other hand, don't want to waste time looking for and sitting at a gas station unless the car REALLY needs gas. It's a part of challenging myself (with my mileage calculations) and my car (if the gauge is on E, I know it's not really totally empty, so how much exactly IS left?). I have never completely run out of gas, but I have come close enough that the engine was cutting in and out as fuel ran out. Just as I had planned (well, okay, I'd hoped), I was within a couple hundred yards of a gas station, and I coasted in.
