Whats the problem??

What is this a symptom of? I have a 2000 max se with 100000k mikes on it. It has decent low end acceleration, but when I floor it the rpms go up but nothing else happens, it is like it is cutting out! It has been doing this for several months. I changed my plugs a few weeks ago hoping this would help but it didnt. Is this a MAF problem or what? How much is a new one?
Thanks for advice!

if the RPMS are going up "it" (engine) isnt cutting out. sounds like a tranny problem (the power isnt getting to the wheels) do yo have an auto or 5 speed?

WOW...a hundred million miles on your car? I didn't think that was possible...now i'm really impressed with nissan.

What are exactly trying to say? It sounds like your car won't even move? You need to describe these symptoms better. What exactly are you talking about? Does it stall? Does it have poor acceleration? Give us some more details on the problem.

It is a automatic.

When I crank it up in the a.m. it idles fine but when I give it gas it has some hesitation this only last 30-40 seconds and it goes away. If I am at a dead stop and floor it is has great acceleration up to about 4k (four thousand) rpms and it does not pull anymore. I am still accelerating but not like I should at that rpm. The engine seems to stall at high rpms, It does not make since for it to be the tranny, why would it only slip at high rpms?

That is the same exact symptom that my car had. If you have an extended warranty get a new MAF. If you don't, buy one for under $100 and install it yourself. It's really easy. Your car should run as new after the replacement.

My 2000 max with 80k has the same issue, I figure I'd post this question at some point, glad you beat me to it. I'll try the MAF change, thanks.

Does anyone know how to diagnose this problem with a volt meter? can you check the resistance and compare it to the factory specs to see if you car has a bad MAF? In my volvo the part was a 2 titanium wires that when air passed across them cause their resistance to fluctuate depending on the velocity and temperature of the are , thats how the computer knew how much fuel and what mixture to spray from the injectors. Is that how this one works also?

Yes, you can do a diagnosis of the MAF with a voltmeter. Refer to the factory service manual for more info on that. I'm not sure how hard it is though. It refers to using the CONSULT-II system, but you could probably figure out a way to do it without this. You are only looking for the signal change in the MAF.

Anyway, I didn't bother and just replaced my MAF when I had cold engine hesitation. Went away with new MAF.
