Air temp sensor resistor mod

So I was looking for maxima stuff on ebay and found items similar to this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33597
While it sounded like bull**** to me, I did some googling to find anyone debunking it. So I found this site http://www.installuniversity.com/ins...ricker_mod.htm

It looked like it actually might work, so I decided to try it out. Installuniversity mentioned 4.7k resistors, which was what I got at Radioshack (5/$2.00). Problem is that maxima's sensor harness is more tricked out than a Camaro's - it has an extra cover around the plug. Anyway, I managed to hook it up. I start the car and right away I get an SES light. I check with a scan tool, intake air temp is -40. I drove around and I didnt feel any difference.

Conclusion: The experiment failed. There could be several reasons.
1. the resistor is the wrong kind. The kind that fits Camaro is not the same that would fit a Maxima.
2. the resistor did not make a good contact with the sensor, or it caused the plug not to make contact with the sensor's prongs. I need to try unplugging the sensor completly and checking what the temp is with the scan tool. If it shows same -40, it must be the lowest temp limit, which means its not returning any temp at all, i.e. no contact with the sensor.
3. it all worked as it was spose to work, but -40 is too big of a lie for the ECU to handle, it goes ape****z, throws a code (P0110) and ignores the value completely.

Anyt thoughts on this?

if you use this 'mod', you're gonna run rich all the time and your gas mileage is going to go down...

this works by tricking the ecu into thinking that the air is colder than it is, therefore, the ecu will dump more fuel into the mix than it normally would...

look out for stains, from the exhaust, on your rear bumper...

Do you use 4.7k ohm resistor? How did you manage to install it? A pic would be nice...

Thanks
