What speeds are you traveling on the freeway and how often do you accelerate hard while driving?

Ouch. That is very poor. Are you really heavy footed? I am and still get around 300 in town (around 19-20mpg).

I never got lower than 350 miles from my tank in my daily driving.. You are really getting bad milage.. Do you put your car on D, or 3? I know someone who drove on 3 on the highway until I told him.

I can think of at least 2 people that are barely getting 220-230 miles per tank. And I myself am getting ~270 ALL city ('cause we don't have highways in FL)
All city, mainly in stop and go traffic and with the engine running at idle for at least 2 hrs a week while I'm reading in the parking lot.

I get around 260miles filling up at around 12.6-13 gallons. That equals about 19-20mpg. I always fill up at the quarter mark. But I do mostly city driving with very short trips (sometimes as short as 3 miles). And I turn off my car alot. That explains the 19mpg in my 6spd.

I'm planning to run mobil1 synthetic and add an intake. Lets see if that helps in my mileage.

From what I seen on the boards, the typical 5.5 gen 6spd or auto gets above 300-325miles per tank city driving. If you can't hit 300 miles per FULL tank (16-17 gal) then your maxima isn't healthy.

Well I got around 240-300miles(more like 260 most off the time)with 12-13 gals each fill up(alway around 1/4 of tank left)usually around 19 mpg, I drive 60/40(hw/city) and I hit it almost 5 out of 10 times taking off.Sometime I hit it too much and high speed alots, and I end up getting 210 miles for 12-13 gals(about 16-17 mpg) My bro got about 320-340 miles with 12.5-13 gals for his 6sp(granny shift).

I get around 25 mpg on an even mix of city/highway driving in my 03 SE auto which also has 15K miles on it. I usually don't accelerate hard (try to keep it below 2500-2700 RPM on starts), although I am good for several hard accelerations per tank (I can't resist sometimes with this car), and *try* to keep it to just 10mph over the speed limit. My average MPH is close to 40, so I do get to keep my car at a decent speed during most of the commute, and that may have something to do with the decent mileage I get. I normally go 375-400 miles per tank on about 15 gallons.

220 miles to a tank.. damn i would kill myself.. i dont have the cash for that.. i get about 300 miles per tank about 180 till i hit the half way mark. Now somthing Big i noticed is that when using premuim vs regular i get 80 miles extra per tank with the premium.. so it really is cheaper for me to get premuim over the cheap stuff .. so if your not already, try using the good stuff.. its cheaper in the long run ( and i have a HEAVY foot , 80 mph is cruise speed 100 mph when im in a rush) LOTS OF CITY DRIVING TOO!! 80%

just be careful when you TOP OFF your tank. Since it is summer and gas expands when it is hot you can cause harm to your gas tank. just my 2 cents

fellow NYer here boss.....i just filled up a few minutes ago....220 to the tank. it's NY bro. we're full of stop and go traffic. hard to compare to other cities. i've noticed that it's specifically the NY .orgers that get bad mileage. when i go up to Mass. or down to DC, it changes to 300+.

something to just accept.

Not really, in DC i'm pushing maybe 250ish to the tank. So it ain't a whole lot better.

NYC too, but I can get around 260 miles before the light comes on, which leaves me with 4-5 more gallons, so I'd be able to break 300 pretty easily.

Personally, 60-70 is a little higher than peak for my Max from what I have seen. Although we all know that the mpg on the Trip computer is about 3mpg higher than actual, I do think it is relatively accurate to use it looking for trends. For instance, when you see it going up, your "true" mpg average will probably be going up to, and the converse holds true, as well. So, using that, I notice that when cruising in the highest gear (I do have an auto), my optimum seems to be around 50-55. At around 65-70, the numbers will hold firm, so I'm not decreasing my "true" mpg. But, when I drop down to about 55, I notice the numbers will be climbing. So, that tells me that about 50-55 is the "peak" mpg speed. I normally go off of RPM's, but I know that can differ between cars and how they're tuned. For me, its about 13.5 mph per 500 rpm. For instance, at 2000 rpm, I'm at 60, 2500 rpm = 74mph, 3000 rpm = 87mph, 3500 rpm = 101mph. Hope this helps.

I did some quick figuring a while ago and estimated you lose about 10 miles/tank every time you floor it. You said you have a heavy foot... accelerate slowly. Just keeping it under 3k does no good if you go from 0-3k in 2 seconds.

I have friends who attend Binghamton U. I've been there more than a handful of times at various parties. Girls who have no less than a bottle of beer in them start acting stupid. :P

I get about 270-290 per tank 50/50 city highway, but I tell ya time that hand gets off of the F it drops like a falling rock. The 350 is the same way, and when I gun them I see the hands move in them.

I know cars will be different, but that does seem pretty different. We appear to have similar models, so that's not it. Mine is auto, only 15K miles on it (the first 11 were driven by an old grandpa), and I haven't ever put it through any real harsh conditions, only use premium, and I'm in FL. I don't know if NY would cause much of a difference, since I figure we would both be about sea level.

And, 2k2wannabe, I definitely agree with you stating that the 3000 rpm limit for better gas mileage is for all gears, not just the top cruising gear. I keep mine under 2700, even on starts. Normally, there's traffic, so it's not that hard. But, occasionally, when there's no traffic, or I'm at the front of the line, I get that temptation to fully unleash the power of the VQ35!

By the way, it's slightly OT, but does anyone know what the rev limiter is set at for an '03 SE? I thought I had heard that it was rev limited and not speed limited. One time on a VERY empty and long, straight road, I decided to see how high it would go, and it was nice and smooth, until it got to 139 or 140, which was right around 4950 RPM (as I recall), but it just stayed there and wouldn't go any higher, even though I know it had plenty of power left to do it. Just curious. (/End OT)
