Um, it's more like Altimas being mistaken for Maximas. At least when I see an Alti from far away I can tell it's a Nissan but somehow I always take it for a Max.

My mom (when she sees the 6th gen) says "Ohh, look at that altima."

When she sees an Altima she says "Ohh, look at that maxima."

Haha, that's nothing. My mom knows so much about cars that she can't tell a Jaguar from a Mercury Cougar.

But it's true, the '04 Max does bear some resemblance to the Altima. Especially the profile. A perfect car would be the Altima front and the 6th gen rear. That would look the least ugly imo.

I like the 6th Gen...but if they have altered the 5.5 gen it Nissan would have started with a good foundation and just made it better IMO...

Its so friggin hard for me to tell them apart from the front (5th gen max/ atltima). The 6th gens you can tell the difference becuase of the grill. For the 5th gens/ altimas I usually have to look a the back of the car for the tail lights.

A perfect Nissan would be the VQ35 (supercharged), the 2k3 body, the 2k-1 tails, independent rear suspension, the 6th-gen sunroof, and HIDs that can't be stolen.

and no, I've never been mistaken for an Altima....though my older neighbors didn't realize I traded in my 92 Accord coupe (black with tan interior and roof rack) for my maxima (black with tan interior and roof rack)....they were like "your car looks really shiny" and I was like "that's because it's a different car"

Well, yes that would be a great idea. Basically saying that the 6th gen has nothing on us save for the skyview? I don't like the 6th gen exterior better per se, but I'll have to admit that (stock), it turns a lot more heads. I'm sorry if that offends someone, but 2k SE tails look hideous on anything but black or grey lustre and just ok on satin blue. Just a female point of view...

And your neighbors, oh man, let's just assume that the people don't care the least about imports. Just like my mom and jaguars..

that's pretty much what I'm saying....I don't like the front, back, side profile, or dash/gauge layout on the 6th gens....6th gen DOES have independent rear suspension, right? There's another plus. Yeah they get looks because they look like a huge, rounded, luxury Altima in my opinion...

You're right about the tails...I only like the black tails on dark maxes (but then, that's what I have so that's what I think about I guess...)

my neighbors wouldn't know a dump truck from a maserati.....

On that note, I would LOVE a RWD/AWD Maxima. This question has been discussed many times and I'm not an expert on chassis/platform questions but ours would have been a bad@$$ car.... pretty much like the G sedan.

Code:
You're right about the tails...I only like the black tails on dark maxes (but then, that's what I have so that's what I think about I guess...)
Don't get me wrong, my red ones aren't much more beautiful either. But personally I wouldn't mess with the SE ones. I've seen them on a green max, that's the worst combo ever.

my neighbors wouldn't know a dump truck from a maserati.....

Best line I've heard today!

eh...I never would have bought the maxima if it was RWD. AWD yes.....I actually wanted to get an Audi S4 when I was car shopping but couldn't afford it so I "settled" for the max (and am happy I did)....

In this area we get rain and snow and sleet and ice, unlike you Floridians ...RWD is no good to have as your only car, especially for ski trips....Every winter I laugh at my buddy whose only car is an M3.....since it spends about 15 days per winter going nowhere!

The worst mistaken identity was my friend's Maserati TC ALWAYS got mistaken for a Chryslar Lebaron. They looked nearly identical but you could see the smoke come out of his ears when someone asked him where he got the hard top for his Lebaron convertible.

Being compared to an Altima doesn't nearly sound as bad compared to that. In my area, 5th gens are so common, no one even notices....

From the front there is a resemblance between the 02/03 Max and 02-05 Altimas, the new 05 with its edgier bumper really resembles the 5.5 gen with its edgier front end.

It has only happened to me once. I was in a Wally world parking lot and this older man asked me how I liked my "Altima." His wife told him that it was a Maxima. It was kind of funny to me.

Maserati TC WAS a Chrysler LeBaron. Much like Cadillac's Allante, Maserati designed a luxury package for the lebaron -- better leather, sound sys, different moldings, etc. Chrysler internals. I think they used the Turbo 2.5 or 2.7 engine or possibly the T3.3 from Turismos and eu-spec Voyagers.

Sorry if you're being sarcastic, I didn't pick up on it.

I was and wasn't, it wasn't like I spent $20K on a used Lebaron/TC, he would just go mental over it. I always thought it was funny. The fact that he bought a second one as a parts car should have been a tip off that it was a Chrysler. He could point to a million things that were different from the Lebaron, but to me, that just made it a really expensive piece of ......Lebaron.
