Okay, since I am new to this Modification stuff on my Maxima, I appologize if I am a little slow at this....

I have been reading the posts for awhile and seen a couple different type of CAI installs, but cant seem to figure out which one to get.

I mean there are some like the JWT intake, I saw the pics on that, and it seems all there is to that is to remove the stock air filter holder and install the new Cone shapped filter.

Then I have seen other people on other posts talking about installing a CAI on their 2kMAX and talk about having to drill a 3" hole in the driver's side wheelwell. Is it really necessary to drill the 3" hole and what is the advantage over the JWT CAI install?

All I want to know is which one is better? I mean most CAI in general do only one thing, bring air into the engine, how much different can one be from another and is there really an advantage over one type or another type?

Again sorry for the retarded questions, just that I have done Mods on my Honda Civic, Mazda Millenia, BMW 740iL and not run into a question like this before.

get the cold air intake... place racing makes the best one, but this one requires the hole. Cold air is better than hot air, when flowing through the engine, adds more power.

The JWT intake replaces the stock intake box with a cone shaped filter. The JWT design allows for more air to pass through the intake. However, the cone design brings the air in from the engine bay.

The CAI also replaces the stock intake box with a cone type filter. But, it puts the filter down by the ground allowing it to get colder air than what is available in the engine bay (hence the drilling). I would consider an oscai setup instead of a CAI.

For OSCAI info you can check out the link in my sig. I would stay away from any in engine compartmnet cone intakes and either go OSCAI or Place Racing CAI.

So with the cai you keep your box and the cone filter you remove it?

no real differeence in CAI and stillen intake!

I could not find the thread but it is on this board that DYNO's a stillen intake and CAI and their was not much of a difference. In the first run the Stillen was faster but the CAI was on the second, both by less than 1 HP! In my opinion, from a performance and cost point of view, use a K&N drop in and OSCAI for the best performance for the dollar!!! $40 is better than $200 for similar gains.

OSCAI is the only intake mod (other than simple K&N drop in) where you keep the box.

Very true, however just keep in mind that no Dyno shows the true performance of an intake. If you set up an OSCAI properly, with the intake tube pointing foreward to collect air rushing by, you will have created a ram-air effect that a dyno cannot reproduce. Air being forced into an engine generates much more power than air being simply sucked into the engine under just the engines own power. An OSCAI will generate more power the faster the car is moving. Many members have reportedly experienced loss of low end torque with cone-type filters. Definatly go with the OSCAI... I have seen many, many positive comments on it. In fact, I plan on setting up mine this saturday.

In real world I'm sure the PR CAI beats the Stillen Intake since when moving forward the CAI gets way more cold air than when stationary on a dyno.
