If bought thru Nissan, it would cost about $400.00+. If bought remanufactured, it would be around $250.00+, depending on where you buy it from.

i see you're in NY....as MIXXMAX said, it would be cheaper to get a remanufactured one.
near shea stadium, there is a auto parts store. i believe it's called advance auto parts? in any case, they ahve beaten every price i can possibly think of. on my old maxima, they took care of all my parts that i needs, even a remanufactured alternator that i needed.

i also work 2 minutes from there (arthur ashe tennis stadium) so if you want, i can swing by and find out how much it'll cost you, with a core trade-in.

thanks Polo....i'd appreciate it if you could find out for me.

Thing is I can't say for sure I need anew alternator...all I know is my car died at the gas station the other day and I had to get a jump.
I look behind me and low and behold there is a 4th gen with dope rims chillin. By coincidence he was an org member (Larry I think) and he hooked me up.
When the car sits overnight and I start it in the morning it starts up very weakly. You also should consider that I had the car sitting on my driveway for several weeks untouched but have had sufficient time for the battery to recharge.

my local dealer wanted 300+ for the part. i picked a reman up from an sr20den's uncles shop. i paid 132 with tax and sr installed it. i checked with advance and auto zone and neither had a listing for any 5th gens.

i actually did check....and they do NOT have them for the 2k2's yet. but just for comparison, i asked for a 2k alternator, which if i'm not mistaken, are the SAME THING!!!!
price i got was with core swap, $117.

Replacing an alternator without testing the old one first is silly.

80%+ of "bad alternator" complaints we get at our shop are bad batteries. Bad alternator usually manifests itself...you will be driving..usually start hearing a whine noise..battery light will come on, along with ABS and TRAC lights (insufficient voltage to run the systems)...from that point you have anywhere from a few hours to a few days before the battery dies. Car will not be able to be started with a jump start since jump starts depend on the alternator to run the car.

Dead battery..on the other hand...car will not start or will start but not stay running (low voltage to ECU) .. can jump start and drive around as though everything is ok, then come back out after driving all day and car won't start.

Take your car to a shop or an Autozone and have them test your battery (first) alternator (second), no sense spending $120 on an alternator when a $50 battery is the culprit.
