Loud and rough engine when accelerating

Since about a week ago, I noticed that my engine is making this loud rough sound when accelerating. It is hard to describe the sound but it kind of sounds like my old '94 Mustang. This only happens when I'm accelerating though. It doesn't happen when I rev the engine while in neutral. Even when I'm cruising 80 mph on freeways, the engine is nice and smooth. I thought maybe there is a hole in my exhaust but I think it's the engine itself being loud, or at least it's coming from the engine bay (differential?) Check engine light is not on. I just did the regular maintenance yesterday (transmission oil, air filter, oil change, etc). I was hoping that would fix the problem but not really.

I don't know what to do. Can someone please advise what I should check for this problem? Your kind help is much appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

I have the same problem, it is weird the fu%$#*ing sound. It is driving me crazy. I gave up on the sound and give my car to my wife. Hopefully someone can help us on this problem. I you find out PLEASE let me know, I NEED to fix the sound. I was talking to my brother, and he told me that it can be a normal situation with the K&N on the stock box, more air coming in wil make he intake to sound more, but I have my doubts about this.....

Hmm, it's funny 'cause my friend's Probe GT makes the same sound too but only at WOT. He said he started getting the sound right after he installed the cold air intake. But I did not make any modifications to my car except for the floor mats. Not even the K&N. This is driving me nuts!!

open up the hood and make sure the idiot who did your tune up didn't forget to install the filter in the airbox. There is like a panel that slides out of the airbox with a filter inside it- will have 2 metal clips holding it closed to the airbox.

Checked. A brand new nice and clean air filter in place. Thank you for the advise though. You think there might be a leak somewhere in my intake system? Loose screws or cracked pipes? Would that make my engine act this way? Hmm..

Well sorry I didn't know you did you own tune up- just said it was done. Check that the resonator doesn't have a hole in it.

Hmm. Now I think about it, last year I had to bend the shield around resonator a little bit because it was rattling. One more thing to check. Thanks!

Ahh. It's not the resonator either. Could a malfunctioning MAF cause this problem? I know the engine starts to act really funny if the MAF is shutdown, but what if the MAF is still on but giving out wrong values? Just a thought cuz I'm running out of things to check.
