AE Auto Shifter?
#6
i have an auto AE and the clear coat over the chrome is flakey and looks dull. Everytime i drove for a month i scratched it off with my nail, i did the whole top but not all the way down. Looks 100 times better nice and shiney. Paint thinner might take it off easier. Just make sure you dont touch the leather on the sides of the shifter with it... cant be good.

This has nothing to do with your question, but I'm glad that your sig has a rear shot of your AE in it. I bought my AE used, so I didn't know why I had a different muffler than the stock '01 SE. Why didn't the AEs get the duel exit, straight back, chrome tipped exhaust like the SE? I think it would look great with the rear valance and it should fit right in there.
Anyway, like someone said, a junkyard would be good if they had an AE, and I know there's someone on here who sells all kinds of stock Maxima parts. They'd have it too.

I may try that paint thinner i noticed some peoples shifter was chrome and noticed it is under the top coat so maybe ill just strip the rest of it off it would probably look nice..but how much for the new shifter? are they easy to put in?

well if u have an AE.. with an AE shifter yea its very easy..
you just unscrew the old shifter.. take it out.. and put on the new shifter and screw it in.. 10 min job.
i dont know .. i bought it for 100 bucks from the dealer.. so i guess i'm not expecting that. but somewhere around there...make me a reasonable offer.. and i'll take care of the shipping

I totally agree. The AE puts chrome on everything else in the car, why would they take it away from the exhuast if it was already on there. Id have to soder off the round tips just to add a nice chrome tip.

paint thinner does nothing to metal, but will remove the clear coat. might have to work it a bit with the cloth. try to avoid touching the leather on the side of your shifter, it will dry it out. you might want to brillo (pad) it for 30seconds, just dont scratch the chrome.
