Cooling seats..?

Ok well i kinda thought of this last night while i was dreaming. Well the idea is to kinda copy the M45 and other luxury sedans that have cooling seats. I think it might be kinda ghetto to do this but let me know what you think

But the idea. is to run a hose from the Rear seat floor vents into the seat some-how.. but the only thing is. there are no vent holes in my seats so i dont know that it would do much..

Any ideas? and anyone else think about this or have this option/ mod done..

Comments also would be great

why you stealin my idea?!?!?
i actually just thought about this yesterday on the way home from work when my @ss was sticking to the hot leather.
and i was gonna try and do it the exact same way.
i think it would work without the holes. it would cool the leather from the inside. only problem i thought of was airflow in there. if you are sitting in the seat you would be completely blocking any place for the air to flow. you would have to somehow make space between the foam and the leather.

ill deal with a few minutes of warmth to have leather seats.
so nice and smooth.
cant stain them with mt dew.
dont retain smoke smell from smoking.
stronger so they will last longer

yeah dude.. i went and looked at my car.. and the problem is that yeah the leather is sealed around the foam.. so you have to cut the leather to run a hose inside to the foam.. well i was thinking just to have two tubes running on either side of your *** while your sitting. there is a space im sure you know what im talking about, that is inbetween the seat back and seat bottom, and this part is carpet.

you can run two hoses to both sides of this and just have it blow air right next to your ***.. i may try it.

Also something that helps is ... right now i have all 3 foot well vents blocked off with papertowel so i get ALL the air flowing to the front passenger foot well, ill just open up the left rear vent ( take papertowel out)..

Now all i need to do is go to home depot and find some good tubing

I was pretty sure that the climate control, heated mirrors, and leather seats came together in an option package on the SEs. Am I wrong??

You can get leather seats with no auto climate and no heated seats (at least on 5.5 gen). You can also get Bose with manual climate. It's all a matter of options.

the climate control comes with leather, you cant get it any other way

heated leather is an ooption but you can get heated cloth too

bose and climate control have no relation as far as options

bmw 7 series actually has 6 fans in bottom portion of the seat that work quetly and cool you ... and leather/foam is perforated for air flow...I think the easiest way is to get a hold of some of the seats ...

well i was acctually gona use computer fans for my Air intake box.. and just cut a hole in the box for the fan so it can force a bit of air into the filter.. and maybe the engine ... but the problem with computer fans for the seats is that we dont ahve perforated seats.. at least i don't so that would not work

i drive without the A/C most of the time so i can have the extra performance, but it is HOT AS ***** down here in florida on the way home in the afternoon.. so the fans or some venting in the seats would be great so that was the reason for the whole idea

so nice and smooth...yeah you slide around a lot easier in hard cornering

cant stain them with mt dew...true, leather wipes up better
dont retain smoke smell from smoking...nobody smokes in my cars or they get

stronger so they will last longer...uhh, NO - look at some older Legends, 929s, Accords, Lexus, Vettes - only the ones with cloth/velour hold up worth a ****

o yeah and since i have leather i also have auto climate control...so does that get it cooler in summer or warmer in winter?

You can't get auto climate with cloth seats, but you can get manual climate with leather seats. I have seen a ton of SEs with that package and it's not like it was aftermarket leather (I'm talking about 5.5gen in particular, that may or may not apply to 00/01)

again, YOU CAN NOT have factory leather without getting the climate control. they come together,

for this cooled seat thing...how about get a narrow vent type fitting that would wedge in between the bottom and top parts of the seat ....basically behind the small of your back....

I think the seat cooler idea is a great one.....especially in Phoenix. It is amazing how many people I know who own cars with leather seats and seat HEATERS here in the 110 degree desert! Personally, if the cooler option was available, I would have chosen leather over cloth. The main reason I purchased a Maxima was that it was about the ONLY performance luxury ride out there that could be optioned with a manual trans and cloth. Of the cars I looked at, the Acura TL, Lexus IS300, G35 and even the Altima V6 require the leather to get the manual - if they even offer cloth at all. It made my choice easy....especially since I've always like the Maxima.

u all drive bare@ss or something?

j/k that actually sounds like a great idea. but if u mess w/ the foam & junk in the seat, wont that mess up the comfort factor?

Hmmm....what about running an AC line direct into the seats with the refrigerant? More complex, but much more efficient.

That would be awesome and I would go for that, but even the OEM cooled seats don't work like that. It's "evaporative cooling" that just makes you FEEL a bit cooler, but doesn't actively cool you.

Yeah I know...plus with the direct cooling lines from the refrigerant your *** will probably freeze.
