Unibody Damage
Unibody Damage
My car got rear-ended about 3 weeks ago. It looked pretty bad, but the insurance company said it is repairable.
I took my car to the Ford Body Shop (Nissan dealership told me to take it there).
Anyway, now I am reading that repairing unibody cars after an accident signifigantly reduces the safety of the car. If I were to get in another similar accident, I could get seriously hurt.
The unibody was damaged, but the mechanic there said they can bend it back like normal.
Should I get another opinion when they are done?
Thanks

I guess you're limited as to what to do because of your insurance company. I would think that if the body is bent all the way up to one of the C-pillars that it would be totalled but I guess not.
Mine got t-boned last year ($6000 + damage). Got it back and you can't tell. I asked about integrity of body and they said that they could straighten it to closer tolerances than new with their laser controlled equipment. Any good and reputable body shop with the right equipment should be able to handle it. Ask questions and check out a couple different shops to ease your concerns. Good luck with the repairs and glad you're okay.

You also want to have the other driver's insuracne company include a reimbursement for loss of resale value due to the accident. They will push back on this but it is your right to be fairly compensated.
You will probably be told that they will reimburse you when you sell the vehicle. If this is the case, make sure they do not put a time limit on when you have to resell to be reimbursed. If this is the case you may want to "sell" it your wife/brother/dad and reflect the loss due to the accident and then buy it back from them.
