header stuck

header stuck

well my new headers arrived and i cant seem to get the rear one removed the cat is to rusted on to break free well how can i get to just the header i took it to a shop and they said they have to drop the engine iam a little nervus i dont really trust the company they have to send it to well can i do this myself or is there another way to get to the header maybe remove the intake manifold? thanx

You should be able to reach the header bolts by taking off your y-pipe first and using a combination of a universal joint for your ratchet and some extensions. That's how I got mine off. It is a lot easier with air tools.

If the cat bolts are stuck, get some liquid wrench and soak them overnight. Then, if they still won't come free by hand, I've found that lying on my back and using my legs to push the ratchet works wonders.

There is probably no need to drop the engine.

If the bolts break on the Cat, you may have to drill out the bolts/studs and just use a nut and bolt to attach it to the header/exhaust flanges... that's what my friend just did... works great.

DO NOT LET THEM DROP THE ENGINE!!!!..All you have to do is remove the forward and aft engine mounts and have someone rotate the engine toward the rear and you will then have access to the rear header.
