5.5 Gen Short Throw Shifter lead - NEED YOUR HELP
Ok guys. Well i got the 2005 altima se-r sts. Well. Here is the low down. The shifter is a lot cheaper design than ours. You will see in the pics below. The shifter actuall fit in the holes with just slight bending of the base screws of about 0.5 mm on each side. Ok it fit. Now the problem is that the shifter cables did not fit the same. The altima shifter is about an inch longer. Solved this problem by just pushing the cables back lightly. until the cables fit in the appropriate holes and clamped (this is hard to explain but when u see the shifter u will see. Well got it installed. Problem is. The throw IS EXACTLY the same as our maximas... I measured it and it came to about 4 inches each. It isnt worth getting this so I am waiting for someone else to design a sts for our car. A plus of this shifter is that the 2nd to third was more defined. It also moved the shifter a lot more foward. I can only put one and a half fingers inbetween the shift **** and the dash

Nah. if you look the alti shifter assembly it has a piece of it sticking out where you can not put the cover back on... unless you cut it off. Which i didnt want to do after testing the shifter out.
Good luck sr20. It's not a hard install. Be careful with the shifter cables when u push them back to not kink them, but u probably already knew that. Let me know what you find. PM if you have any ideas or what else.

Received another email update:
Hi Roy,
Thanks for your e-mail. We are still going to design the shifter but unfortunately things are too busy right now to concentrate on product development. We should be able to have something released shortly after SEMA.
Thanks for your patience and I assure you that the part will be worth the wait.

I don't know, but if his interest or excitement about the issue (and effort put into r&D) can be really gauged by this email, i think their STS may suck.
I don't want "something" you know, why must it be that it's like we can tak whatever we can get? If the STS sux, i'm not buying it, hell i don't even need one that bad, i got that new clutch now, that's a real mod ; )
If people just need "something", hell why dont you go and just hack off a few inches off yer shifter like a few others have. (yay)

As for their quality, if you look at their website, their stuff looks pretty good to me. Also, Cattman is the one who initially approached this company with the thought of having them develop the STS - at last year's SEMA show - I'm sure he had plenty of opportunity to look at their goods and check out the quality. I doubt he would have approached them if their stuff was ****.

The actual throw between gears will be as long as they ever were, but now you've risked screwing up your shifter cuz you chopped up the shaft...

SSR Engineering just got a CNC machine and listed a SHORT SHIFTER as something they can make. Post in their thread and show your interest!

Wow, alot of interest here, I skipped the sticky on accident. We will be more then happy to make an STS for you guys
We will need a car in about a week or so, the turn around time will be extremely fast, so if any of you are located in San Diego then shoot me a PM and I'll get you setup with an appointment.

The 2002/2003 6-speed is Cable actuated - not Rod actuated (like the 2000/2001's are) which probably adds a level of difficulty to the project.
I may be wrong, but that's my $0.02... Others with more knowledge, please speak up...
PS - I'll talk to Tim about it Saturday when I visit... You did let him know I'm coming I hope...? (HNDA ETR => Roy)

SR20 --- perform some type of magic or something to make this thing work like a STS!
I also sent the email about the STS, too bad it's still not developed
