Engine shut off while driving

I've got an auto 2k SE w/73k and was cuising at 70mph down the freeway when the SES, oil, battery and e-brake light all went on. It was like the engine shut itself off so I flipped on the hazzards and tried shifting into 1st. I even turned the key to off and tried to restart and nothing happened. I eventually had to muscle the steering and was stepping on the brake with both feet so I could pull over to the side and stop. 10 mins later it started and I managed to get it home. Anybody have this happen or have a clue what the hell is going on?

Maybe the Crank Position sensor....there is a recall for those on 5th gens.

Maybe the computer thought it overheated and turned everything off......check the sensor

The crank position sensor is for the 5.5 Gens(meaning 2k2/2k3). There might be something else wrong.

um myn did that when i spun my car... if there is stress on the tranny GREAT STRESS itll shut engine off and shift to netral.. basically maybe your car thought that you had wheels spinning backwards .. when i spun the car it was going 70 and by the time i got it under control it was going 20 and backwards still in drive .. so the tranny saved itself and the engine shuts off... bring your car to the dealer soon or it may happen again

Try get your car code scan first and then go from there. Another problem is, a blown MAF sensor. Your car will start but won't run at higher rpm, when try to give gas, it will sputter and die. I had this problem with my 2k-gxe about 2 yrs. ago. Good Luck

Somebody said I might have experienced vapor lock, but I've never experienced it myself. Does anyone know if that is what I described? I'm going to go and have the codes pulled today. I have a feeling my ignition coils are going bad for the second time too. Thanks for all the input. Hopefully I come back with some good news.

i thought vapor lock was more of a thing that happened in carbureted cars, not fuel-injected engines.....maybe my memory is foggy though...

Just got back from the mechanic. Apparently there weren't any error codes in the computer. When we hooked up the reader to the car it said it was ok to drive. The guy said vapor lock shouldn't be happening on the car. He guessed since I was low on fuel some air may have gotten in causing the shutdown. On the plus side, there was no code for my ignition coils either.
