I got sick and tired of no one ever having a good map light for out car, everything is very cheap looking, or they burn out. so i am in the process of making my own.

I would have been done by now, but i ran out of leds. I think that i may sell these if they come out well enough. or i will just make a write up... not sure yet. but i will keep you guys posted, i should have the rest of my leds in very shortly.

who knew that there was demand for brighter map lights...

well, i always see threads about "what bulb is this" or "can't find a good bulb for map light" the bulb is had to find because it is the screew in type with the two nubs at the end. if people are intrested, i will it so it is a dirrect fit, so it just screws in like it is stock. but for my prototype, it will be very basic, and crude. i will give pics as soon as i can.

Well it depends on how difficult they are to build. If it's pretty time consuming I would just do a write up because it would be difficult for just you to fill orders quickly.

 

I did my friend's dome light...unforunately, I can't seem to find the pic. I'm sure you know this but make sure you aim the led's where you want the light to be directed...or they'll projected straight down.

 

Mine are bright as all hell, I even got red bulbs and they are still ultra bright. Maybe I have a freak alternator?

 

Hmm.. I just bought the Polarg map lights off Ebay.

 

That's what i've got in my car all around, work fine for me. I can take pictures tonight if anyone is interested.

 

i am more intersted in the visor bulbs. i have yet to see any place selling those. the stock ones $uck. i broke one, and i will have to go to the dealer for a replacement. ugly yellow

Im using the polarg in my map light. It kiinda ****es me off because my rear bulb is Piaa Dome light bulb (Xtreme White) and its pretty nice lookin at night. The front polarg is pretty damn close the stock (atleast thats what i think). Yo bro if you can make some ill buy some... let me know or PM with pictures.. or hit the email and price... sorry i have not posted in a while, but I have been having some problems with fitment. I can picture it in my head, but it is not working out like that in real life. you see, i don't care what it looks like, or how easy it is to make it work. but if i do decide to sell them, then obviously you guys want to just be able to screw it in and for it to work. well thats the problem i am having. also, i am trying to cut down on the cost of materials so the price per unit will not be to high.

this project is taking a lot longer then expected. (do they all) in fact i just blew someting in my car. when testing fitment, i touched the two contacts together and it shorted out. so now none of my interior lights are working, but i can not find a blown fuse anywhere. and now my "trunk lid" light is on in my dash, and will not go off... even though my trunk is shut. go figure.

well, i am going to keep on trying, and i will keep all of you post when i make progress, or i am done. sorry for the extra wait time.

Sorry for bringing up such an old post, but I have the Polarg map lights now. I have to admit that they don't look as nice as my Polarg courtesy lights in the doors, but I think it is because the housing in the door is white instead of tan like my map lights(or grey, black for some of you) Do you think that just by painting or putting something brighter in the background of the maplight we could achieve a brighter light? I mean it is much simpler than making a custom LED bulb.

 

Nah, it is not that old. sorry i have not given updates in a while. i was working on it, and then i got sidetracked with other projects with my car, so it got put on the back burner. Unfortunetly, it seems like there is no easy way to make a new bulb that will fit in the old connection points. i will work on it some more and see if i can get it to work, but i will most likely just do it my own way and make it a permament bulb. (since the bulbs will outlast the time of mey car)

but if i do figure something out, i will let you all know. sorry.

yes, I think that's what his point was... rolling his eyes at the fact that you think you need a brighter map light? The point of those lights being so dim is that they don't blind the driver. What's the need for a brighter light? Seriously. I was in a friend's Titan and the map lights are WAY brighter and quite honestly were annoying after driving in the dark for several hours. They bothered me and I wasn't even driving. They REALLY ****ed him off. I'm with lumdee... I'll take a set of those HID maplights as well. But could you do something like datadots so they're not stolen since I do live in Jersey City

 

yes, i understand his point. but what I am rolling my eyes at, is that no one asked for his thoughts on the matter. this thread is for people who want brighter map lights, NOT for people who DON"T want them.

I like a bright interior. lights inside my car do not bother me. infact, the brighter the better. i hate having a dark boring interior. and on top of it all, it is illegal to have your map lights on while driving anyways, so both of your arguements are void.

the brighter map lights are for when i park somewhere to read a book, or when i am looking for something in my car. not to be used while driving. damn, if you guys hate this idea, i wonder what you would say about about having twenty 18,000mcd leds in my dome light. god forbid.

even tho i think the polar gs are gonna be good enuff for me, i for one appreciate your effort (especially blowing something in your car tryin to do this for us). everyone seems to think that the polargs in the overhead lights dont look so good, so im sure if you offered up a cost effective alternative that looked better, people would go for it, depending on ease of use, of course.

no you pr!ck, I like to drive to my local beach, park the car, and read. the atmosphere, and the backround sounds are relaxing, and no one is there to bother me, so i can really get some good reading time in. of course i do this at night when no one is there. Im sorry if you don't like to read, or can not relate. but if you have neg. things to say, then don't say them here.. newbie.
