Free Nissan 100 point checkup

For those in the L.A. and Ventura Counties

Here's what they check

Engine
Tranny
Differential
Fuel System
Air Filter
Battery
Headlights
Wiper Linkage
Steering Linkage
Front and rear struts
Springs
CV boots
Wheel Alignment
Tire Condition
Fuel Tank
Lights
Fluid Levels
Radiator
Raidiator Hoses
Brake Linings
Rotors
Calipers
Wheel Cylinders
Parking Brake
A/C
Heating System
Muffler
Exhaust Resonator
Exhaust Pipes
Exhaust Brackets
and more!

I'm scared lol I have 122k miles. I think I need an Alignment but I'm gonna wait till I get new tires. Oh and rotors too.

Yup...they offer it for free just to get you in the door so that service can sell you more parts and services like, brake, trans, and coolant flushes.

NC is a yes for the Check-ups, the mailing list probably has something to do with NMAC Financing. It's good through Oct. here but I'd bet it's Nationwide.

I just got my "invite" last week for this......my mom said she got one also for her sentra's as did my sister for hers. This must be a nationwide campaign. I was thinking of taking it in, but then thought why? They're only going to tell me things i already know or plant a seed in my mind saying i need something when i really don't just get money out of me. Needless to say i ripped up the postcard.

I still have starting problems. Hopefully it's just some idle valve. I always have to give it some gas at startup or else it'll stall. Luckily, I have no codes.

Guys.....wake up. Most car dealers do this kind of thing...I still get offers like this for cars i had 8-10 years ago!....

Sure, the "checkup" is free, but they can ALWAYS find something that "needs to be done", whether its a tranny fluid flush, throttle body cleaning, belts changed, etc...

Look, everything on that list is something you can easily check yourself....this checkup is to get suckers who don't know jack about their cars into the dealer so the dealer can blow smoke up their a s s .......

So, here's what you do for each thing on the list:
Engine - ok not sure what's up with this...do they open the hood and make sure the engine is still there? ok....
Tranny - ok, same as engine. If you drive it every day and it feels fine, there's your check.
Differential - again, if it's bad, you'll know it.
Fuel System - smell of gas anywhere? leaks anywhere? use your eyes.
Air Filter - pull it out and look at it. If it's dirty, go to the auto store and get a new one.
Battery - if you suspect the battery is bad, you can have the charge tested at any auto parts store, usually for free...
Headlights - I hope you can tell if your headlights work or not...
Wiper Linkage - WTF? wiper linkage? please explain wtf this is....
Steering Linkage - can be visually inspected, but cannot be internally inspected without disassembly (which the dealer does not do on a free checkup)
Front and rear struts - again....if you have half a brain, you'll know when a strut is bad from the ride. Also look at the strut for any fluid leakage.
Springs - if you break a spring..YOU WILL KNOW IT. Visual inspection will do...you usually can't tell if a spring is "bad" until it breaks.
CV boots - visual inspection of the CV boots....just make sure there are not tears in the rubber and no grease leaking...torn CV boot makes a mess....you'd notice it.
Wheel Alignment - any tire place will do a free alignment check. Checking tire wear is a clear indicator, as is the car pulling right or left....
Tire Condition - duh!
Fuel Tank - if it's not leaking, it's fine.
Lights - again....look at your lights. If they work, good. If they don't, replace bulb.
Fluid Levels - each fluid reservoir has a max/min fill line, all of which can be checked easily under the hood.
Radiator - check for leaks, punctures, etc....
Raidiator Hoses - check for bulges, cracks, etc...
Brake Linings - I assume this is supposed to say "brake lines"...visual check for fluid leakage or bulges...
Rotors - if they're warped, you'll know it. If they are grooved, you can feel it with your fingernail tip.
Calipers - the dealer will not check them, except to make sure bolts are tight.
Wheel Cylinders - ditto.
Parking Brake - test this yourself with the car on an incline.
A/C - if it's cold, it probably works. many auto shops will check the charge for free.
Heating System - if it's hot, it probably works.
Muffler - assuming you're stock, if it's quiet, it's probably fine. Visual inspection for holes, rust, etc...
Exhaust Resonator - visual inspection, if it's quiet, it's fine.
Exhaust Pipes - visual inspection, if it's quiet, it's fine.
Exhaust Brackets - if the muffler is not dragging on the ground, it's fine.
and more! - don't forget things like lubing the sun visors, checking the rearview mirrors, making sure all 4 wheels are there, and replacing the leaf springs....

This thread was created on the 25th yours was created today lol. Anyway, I decided I'm gonna have the tech check the startup problem. There are no codes so I'll coax him into not charging me a diagnostic fee. I'll say this is part of the "Engine" check. Once he tells me what's wrong with it I'll head off and buy the part at a discounted price and install it myself.

Irish, I agree with you the whole way... but it s a free checkup and i'm at 61,000 miles and the tech said everythings good... just wanted to make sure they're not that big of a rip off.. i had my 60,000 tune up with the plugs (even tho it wasn't needed), belts, PCV, brembo rotors, new pads and coolant flushed. So I always expect the steelership to say something was wrong.. and they didnt.. yup, i'm surprised too.

I got mine in the mail. I'm aware that it's a promotion to get people into the service department. It's free and my dealer gives me a written report, then I decide whether to do it and where and when. I'm going to make an appointment. Only need to watch out for shady service departments.

It can't hurt (well, hopefully they won't intentionally mess something up). I'm taking mine in and if they find something then I'll take it somewhere else for a 2nd opinion or to be fixed.

it's so full of crap honestly. I had my barely running sentra checked out there once. guess what, the car was ok according to them. PLUS the dealer HAD NO IDEA this event was taking place

Didn't happen they wanted me to fork over a 90 dollar diagnostic fee. So then they handed me a 100 point checkup report and it turns out besides that startup problem I need new wipers. So I bought the inserts at the dealer for a WHOPPING 20bux

I had this 100 point "free" inspection done in April 04. Right when I got the car. They were having the promo. at the time, so the best bet is to just visit your local dealer, and see if they will do it. There usual fee is as posted above "90 bucks"

I had the front brakes done yesterday and they performed this 100 point check also. I was ready to have them call and say you need this and that, but they only said to have the tranny fluid changed. I probably would not have taken it if I was not already going for a brake job.
