i didnt notice the squeaks so much in the front till i put my stock rears back on,,,,the fronts dont knock,, but they squeek like **** over the bumps...btw, if d2 is claiming some sort of oil problem,, how would that write-up help? or is d2 just blowing smoke?
this has been the worst purchase of my life....

Simple question. Are your dampers noiser when it's colder ?? If so it's the oil issue identified by D2.

Mine are and hopefully I'll find out the cost to warranty them soon....

Mine have been making more noise when it was cold out its still cold out but not as cold but I still have a substantial amount of noise coming from the front coilovers... Im going to record some of the sounds coming from the coilovers this weekend with my brothers MP3 player hopefully UrbanImports replies to my emails soon cause its been a week since I sent them an email about it....

i think the oil prob was legit from D2, the clunking noise is the reason that the Group Buy was delayed. D2 claims to have it taken care of...

i still say the knocking is from the pillow ball mounts (manufacturer issue) rather than them using the wrong type of oil.

OK. I finally got all my shocks in and had a warm day last weekend to work on the car. Took about 2 1/2 hours to swap everything out. The ride is 300% better than it has been for the last 3 months because of the blown struts. Way smooth.

Bad thing.... still getting some squeeking and a slight clunking here and there. The really bad noises are gone, but I still get squeeks from the fronts and I say I am 90% sure it IS the pillow mounts. Mike, if you are watching this thread, how much would it run to get a new set of mounts? I will pay for them up front and if they prove to be the problem then I will send them to you to RMA with D2.

The ride is much better now and for that I am really thankful. We will see if they last though. They already feel better than the first set, even from initial installation.

After reading this thread over and over again, problem seems to be the pillow mount. I bought mine over 9 months ago and I haven't installed them yet. I'm not sure I'm going to unless I can get a hold of new pillow mounts from Urban. Wonder if Mike would swap me new pillow mounts.....

Here's my latest in the D2 saga:

Called Urban Import a little over a month ago, got on the list for 1 replacement rear shock that would supposedly appear on my doorstep in 2-3 weeks. Four weeks go by so I call back. Seems they basically forgot about me so they sent me out one that day - it arrived 2 days later. Opening the box I found two rear shocks so I replaced both of my rears even though only one seemed bad. Put it all back together and my BIG noise from the rear is gone. Remaining are the random nasty noises coming from the front. The rear is overall very good. I will call Urban Import back tomorrow and talk to them about this and see what they recommend. I super tightened EVERYTHING - EVERY bolt that touches the D2s and it doesn't help. I made custom gaskets that go between the car at the top mount and that didn't seem to do much of anything.

Why do I keep feeling like I am throwing "good time" at "bad money?"

Before I go on and install the D2, I kept hearing thing about the pillow mount, excuse my ignorance but I'm not an expert in suspension, so does the pillow mount is the top part of the shock or is it a part of the strut tower ?

I know installing coilover will get me some bling bling, but I would like to take all the precaution before and I wanna keep the ride noiseless as possible.

Thanks for helping.

I replaced all four (4) of mine that I got in from UrbanImports. The ride is 200 times better now. Jeesh, my shocks were gone from day 1 I think. The bad noises are gone, the clunking crackign, etc. The front still creeks when I first start off.

The front shocks were so bad that when I took them out and puched them down, they just stayed there; no return. The pillow ***** are def. on my list. I think they are 100% the cause of the noisy creeking we get on the front. Like I said, I only get it when I first start off in the morning or at night after work. After that I usually dont hear them.

The ride is much more likable now, I am def. way more happy with the ride now than the last 6 months.

Did you get all 4 coilovers replaced or just the shocks? Did it cost you anything?

I had all 4 replaced under warrantee due to the faulty shocks that were sent out. The coilovers are still the same ones. Just the shocks were replaced.

ok so I got my replacement shocks from Urban Imports now how do I take the old ones off?? I tried taking the nuts off of the top of the coilove ( the nuts that you can see from the top when on the car) but I couldnt take them off. The whole shock would twist as I turned the rachet. Am I going to need air tools for this??

There should be flats on the top of the damper rod to grip while you slacken the nut....

i have had mine installed for about a month .. so far im somewhat happy .. my front left does clank but it not that bad and it doesnt do it all the time .. im getting an alingment today so that should iron out my alingment. other than the occasional clanking im happy with them .. and its not cause the shock is blown .. they are all fine. ride is great. better than sprint kyb/agx.

Ahhh...I just got back in the states last night. Hopefully I can get to them this weekend, but that looks bleak. I have a lot of work to catch up on, as well as, school stuff. BUT I need to get it done by the end of this month.

I can't justify their price for what i'm getting.

some ppl have small problems with the d2's, but for the price your getting what you pay for.

Well what is so special to you about the D2s that the Tein's don't have? I mean Tein is a more trusted name, don't you agree?

Before I go ahead and install the D2, I though of inspecting it and see if I can find some weak link, I think I narrow down few area that need special attention:

1- The bottom part of the rear coilover has no rubber between the spring and the shock base ( spring perch ), to me it is obvious that this might be ideal for squeaking. I'm thinking of making a plate that will seat on the bottom shock base and also make some sort of rubber gasket to avoid metal on metal.

2- The top part of the front coilover ( pillow ball ) there is 2 plates on top of each other, even if they look very tight that might be a place where micro squeaking can occur, I might make a gasket and put it between the 2 plates. The pillow ball also look like an area where squeaking can occur... Can this part be lubricate to avoid the possible noise ?

3-The rubber that are supplied look really flimsy, I might make my own using very sturdy material.

Yesterday I've check to see if I may have a defective coilover, there all smooth but what to look for when one is focked up ?

Any thoughs will be appreciate.

Thanks

AA

Have any of these issues been resolved on the manufacturers side, or are the D2's still being shipped with these problems?

The coil spring isolators I bought from SummitRacing made by energy suspension seem to work so far. I've had them in for about 3 weeks and no more creaking noise I had before. I haven't inspected them yet for tearing, but plan to within the next few weeks. I'll keep you guys posted on that.

sounds good, keep us updated.

I just ended up having a company overseas make them to my specifications. A few socal members have been testing them right now along with myself, 3 A32's and 1 A33. Affectionately known as Boss Chen coilovers

So whats in a "Boss Chen Coilover"? Is it just better spring isolators on the D2's? cuz I need some of those...

The Boss Chen coilover systems is a whole new setup. They eliminate all the flaws that the crappy coilovers have like D2's and KSports.

sorry to bring back an old thread guys but ive been searching around w/out any luck. Has its been determined that these clicking problems are specific to the 4th and/or 5th gen and has D2 since corrected these problems. thanks for any help

On MY car it is the lower mount, the alan scews back out and cause it to make noises. I can tighten them and it will be back in a week. The one solution to the problem is to redesign the lower mount, I think they should do away with the alan screws and put in through bolts/nuts that can be torqued down and will not loosen...
