Noob question: Are there any 02-03 GXEs?

I only ask because i have never seen one. its always SE or GLE. i guess i might have seen them and just not noticed, but i see 00-01s all the time, with the red tails, no fogs (i think) and those weird pie plate lookin rims. does anyone here have a 5.5 gen GXE? im curious about them.

they must be, cuz i didnt even know that there were 16" rims for the 5.5s period. now im gonna keep an eye out. its a little weird, IMO tho. the low end maxima, no big interior options, 16" rims, but it still has a $1000 HID system.

I have one...checkout my sign below:

I highly recommend those who consider modding their car to get the base model (which is the GXE). Why waste your money on factory options when you're going to change them w/aftermarket products anyway?

maybe i have seen them, cuz those wheels look familar. your right tho, if you plan on modding EVERYTHING, the base model with the same motor would be the best choice.

My friends mom has a 02 GXE, and hes got a 02 SE 6MT. 6spds only came on SEs, where the 00-01s 5spds where avalible in GXE and SEs. GXEs came with 15" steel wheels and plastic hub caps, there where really no options on the 5spd GXEs. I got a GXE cause I deffinitally aint diggn the BOSE, the "sport tunned suspension" and other little BS that I deff didnt need.

The 3-major options that the base model lack are: 6spd+slip-diff, traction control, and navigation system. IMO, the auto is sufficient since the engine is quite powerful. Thus the front wheel drive configuration can only handle soo much horsepowers w/out negative effects such as wheel hop, or loss of traction due to nasty torque steer.

THe rims in the pic of the 02 GXE looks like the GLE/SE rims from the 00-01. Or am I wrong?

I have a 2000 GLE with red lights (only SEs got the black lights) and "weird pie plate looking" rims.

this is BS in the long run. I got a 2k GXE 5spd w/ no options, and believe me , after all the hassle of getting OEM fogs, spoiler, rims, stereo, I should have paid a bit more and gotten a loaded SE.

FYI: The 02' GXE is well equipped vs. the 00-01 model. The only OEM part that I had installed was the foglights (bought it cheap online). Personally, I do not care for the spoiler 'cause it serves no purpose for the FWD platform in term of performance. Also, people here with the SE's trim swap out the stock rims & stereo for the aftermarket one anyway.

You're right. The 16" rims are the same as the early 01' SE's and GLE models.

When i first saw a 2k2-2k3 GXE, I thought the guy got into an accident with the curb.....later I noticed no fogs and so I thought it was a GXE but strange since i didn't know they existed.

if you are gonna go aftermarket everything, the GXE would probably be the logical choice. i mean, lowering springs, struts, new wheels, custom seat covers, aftermarket system. you would normally spend all that getting the SE rims, Bose system, SE suspension, which you would change anyway. if you dont care about climate control and heated seats and things like that, the GXE would be the way to go to. i mean, it even comes with HIDs still and the same motor, so aside from the creature comforts, your comin out pretty good.

SE suspension or Ground Controlls on Konis- that was the only choice back when I got my car in terms of suspension upgrades. SE suspension sucks, and its only a hair stiffer than the GXE/GLE.
Stock sound system- I want XM, and I also don't wanna have a radio that eats CDs and breaks down alot- thanx Clarion, NO. I reather have one 10" DVC sub in the trunk, my own choice of interior speakers and amps vs a POS BOSE sound system.
Stock wheels- offset on the wheels is totally wrong and I disslike the stock wheels anyways so why pay extra for the 16s or even more for the optional 17s the SEs came with ?
Spoiler- personal opinion the spoiler on the 5th gen looks like an afterthought- why I don't have one.
Fog lights- I have added my own a week after I got the car for 100 bux.
GXE 5spd vs SE 5spd was little over 2K dollars difference in sticker, if you like blowing your $$$ out the window, please PayPal me some to 93SER@comcast.net I will gladly accept it. Some of us are more hardcore about modyfing their cars than others, to some friggin interior bulb change and synthetic fluids in their car is a MOD, well if I wanted to list all my mods it would take more space than this pointless post I just made. I reather buy a cheaper car knowing that I will repleace all the things on it with better performing parts than pay for the "better" parts from the factory and then toss them out. If I couldn't get a 5spd in a GXE then yeah I would get a SE, but since Nissan is one of the very few car companies that still offers a V6 with a manual tranny even on their cheapest top of the line sedan, I chose a 01 GXE 5spd which was 20187 dollars with tax, title and registration out the door WITH 4 miles on the odometer.

The difference between the 02' SE and GXE (auto) are: stiffer springs (not really, test drove it), foglights, spoiler, and 17" wheels. Everything else is the same. The difference in cost was at least $2K which you can upgrade w/better aftermarket suspensions (paid about $500 for springs/shocks) + foglights (paid $115) and still left w/$1,385 for a good set of aftermarket wheels/tires and heck, a spoiler too if you must have it.

2002/3 GXEs were only 5% of the total production, meaning 5% of 90,000 for 2002 and 5% of 82,000 for 2003. This makes 8,600 overall. No wonder you don't see them much. I've personally seen 1 or 2...

And IIRC, 00/01 GXEs have a sunroof option (as well as the spoiler). Wonder if this was the case with the 02/03.

The SE has a better seat thread pattern and the leather wrapped steering wheel and the Titanium gauges, if you could find a GXE in 02 or 03 you were lucky.

Are you talking about the non-leather seat? There's a difference in thread pattern? hmmm. Anyhow, it wasn't a factor for me since I installed the aftermarket 2-tones leather + heated front seats ($800 total) a few months after I got the car. The SE's gauge is nice but the GXE gauge is not too bad (I think it's the same as the GLE's). Also, I recently bought some chrome rings ($25-group deal) to help essentuate the looks.
