help!!!! spring install problem. please

so i have the back wheels off and i go to take off the bottem shock bolt, the one that holds it to the axel, and it wont bunge. so i get a bar and slide it over the rachet to get more leverage, and then the entire bolt turns, both sides. the problem is the other side can't be held because there is already something there to hold it, but all that is doing is stripping it.

any idea's, help please.

You should hold the other end with a wrench while you use a breaker bar to ratchet off the bolt. I cant imagine what would be stripping...

IF the thing on the backside of the bolt is "stripping it" then you are not using the correct size. You should use the correct size box-end wrench (use the enclosed side) or socket. I think it is 17mm....Remember...metric sizes - an english size may feel like it fits, but it doesn't.

eek....if you are having trouble with this part (the easiest part of the job) than you might want to think about having someone help you with the spring job or take it to a shop....

if you have actually done the springs, you would know that on the back of the bolt that holds the shock on the back wheels, there is a holder around it, somewhat like a wrench of its own, so you don't have to hold the other side. this was stripping the nut and you cant hold it because this thing is in the way. but thanks for all the input, i got it done and it looks great.

ah indeed, I forgot about that thing.....and yes, I have actually done my springs.....you could have used a vise-grip wrench to make sure the bracket piece didn't flex....but happy you figured it out. See, you didn't need our advice anyhow

That's the way to go. Did my springs and shocks last week. The lift and air tools made it so easy.

yea i used the shaft from the jack and slid it over the end of the wrench to get more leverage and it wasn't hard at all. but yes pneumatics would have been very helpful.
