I searched for the information I needed but didn't come up with anything fruitful.

I have a 4th generation with 5th generation wheels and tires. I have a 99 GLE with 01 AE wheels and tires.

I wanted to know what the recommended tire pressure was. I called my dealer and he said he didn't want to give me an answer and be liable since the 99 didn't come with the 17 inchers. I don't want it to be too bouncy or under-inflated.

Any ideas or thoughts? Anyone out there with the 17 inch SE/AE wheels and tires? What are you guys inflating to? Anyone know how much heavier the 5th gen is compared to the 4th gen?

THANKS!

I think it's 32 for gen 5's, but I keep it around 35...

The sticker says 32, and I keep it at 32. Some tires have stiffer sidewalls and some softer. You have to adjust it within reason to where you feel comfortable. For me, with the 17" rims and stock tires 35lbs was too harsh, 32lbs feels just right.

Then again I may just be too old fragile for 35lbs.

Uhh..maybe I'm dumb, but you could always just look at the tire?? I believe they have a pressure rating on them. Just a thought!

I think they just have a minimum and maximum on there...

I wanted to hear from people's experiences and preferences...

Unfortunately the dealer I bought mine from was sleeping too, b/c all 4 tires were at 45lbs when I picked up the car.

Help! Tire Pressure

Hi all,

I'm a newbie to this forum and have a 2000 SE and 17" wheels. I might be crazy on this, but I run fronts at 36 PSI and rears at 30 PSI. This is to compensate a bit for the extra weight of FWD and provide a bit more oversteer to compensate for the heavy understeer this car has compared to my last car, the SVT Contour. The Contour was neutral handling and could be induced into nice 4 wheel drifts through corners with higher pressure fronts. No such luck with my Max, must get FSTB and RSB.

How close to neutral can you guys get who have done these mods, and which mod was more important first, FSTB or RSB?

Re: Help! Tire Pressure

FSTB will just make the steering more precise. The RSB will increase oversteer.

The 5th gen rims look hot on a 4th gen.

I would keep it around 32 since the car is 300 pounds lighter.

from wut i remember.. isnt it the lower the pressure the better because the tire has more tread touchin the ground?? but not too much.. or you'll mess up the tire rite?

For straight line acceleration a softer tire is better, more contact patch.

For autocross you need a higher pressure to keep the sidewall stability up. A low pressure here could litterally roll the tire off the rim. (not good!)

Unless you are in a real hot climate (arizona, texas...) an overpressured tire should be OK.

That's the absolute maximum, not the recommended!!!!!

Try 33 front, 29 rear, you'll like it.
