'02 Max has "Service Engine Light Soon"

'02 GLE has service engine light soon light on. Gas cap is shut tight. Any ideas ? What is the the warranty coverage for this likely emission related problem ? I have 42k miles and the car was purchased mid 2002. Ideas ?

possible o2 sensors, but you should be under warranty un 48,000. bring it in and let them fix it for free.

Take your car to Auto Zone and have them pull the codes to try and isolate the trouble. Once you have that information, you can figure which route you should to to resolve it.

These threads suck. There should be a sticky about posting SES light posts stating all of them will be deleted unless they contain the trouble code.

Mine came on my '02 at 55,00K while on vacation . If it is a burning steady lamp...just emission problems, posible loose gas cap or maybe your tank was run too close to empty. That will trigger it and will go off on its own after time (mine went off before getting home from vacation). If the SES lamp is blinking...a more demanding problem exists and seek repair. Missfire will trigger that blinking SES lamp for example. This is all in your owners manual.

I had a '95 max and the SES lamp never came on till after 100Kmiles and it was an 02 sensor. If I have an 02 Sensor go out before then on this max, this will be my last Nissan. Seems quality gets worse as the modle years get newer.

Good luck!

Dont fret too much Jett. You could be someone who unloaded $33G on a new Acura TL and have the same problem .
