Pull over to the shoulder.

Recalls can be viewed on the Nissan web site. I have not seen a recall for the alternator on 2001's.

Pablosal has a 2k and as far as I know, there weren't any recalls for 2k Maximas. But he did have an alternator problem once on the highway...

But the recall he's talking about is this one (sorry for caps, copied it from website)

2003 NISSAN MAXIMA ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE CIRCUIT BOARD FOR THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR MAY HAVE AN IMPROPER SOLDER JOINT DUE TO SOLDER DEFORMATION CAUSED BY HEAT STRESS ACCELERATED BY THE EXISTENCE OF FLUX RESIDUE DURING THE SOLDERING PROCESS.

Consequence:
THIS COULD CAUSE THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" WARNING LIGHT TO COME ON, CREATE A NO START CONDITION, CAUSE REDUCED ENGINE POWER, OR CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CRANK POSITION SENSORS. VEHICLES INVOLVED IN A PREVIOUS RECALL CAMPAIGN, 01V357, ARE ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS NEW CAMPAIGN. THE REPLACEMENT SENSORS USED IN THAT CAMPAIGN ARE ALSO AFFECTED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON DECEMBER 22, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261 OR INFINITI AT 1-800-662-6200.

Notes:
NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC. R3021/R3022

ok the campaign is to replaced to crank and cam position sensors it takes about an hour to have done at the dealer and nissan should have sent you a notice in the mail, if they didn't you can contact your local dealer and ask then to run (service comm) to find out if there are any recalls/campaigns outstanding on your vehicle. the recall basically is for starting problems the car has 3 sensors so unless 2 of them go bad at the same time you will not stall or get stranded, but i do rec. getting the campaign performed so you don't have to worry. the campaign
# is NTB03-124

there are 3 other campaigns on 2k2 vehicles transverse links, odometer, and accelerator pedal....

Nissan Maxima Recall 02V146000

To be fair, since the "15 post" rule exists, there really isnt any good way to ask about this, since it is likely to be drowned out in the new member thread. Either allow new members to create threads, or STFU about resurrecting old (relevant) threads.

No, the idea is to have people contribute before just joining for help. Contributing helps to build the community rather than hear the same questions posted over and over and over again.

Yes, but with a single thread it becomes very hard to follow a coherent conversation about a particular issue.

Also, a lot of times people join and don't really know what they are talking about until they get some experience (usually by asking questions, and then trying things out).

Do you really want people giving advice that are brand new and really dont know anything? Or would you rather they ask relevant questions, and try things out on their own and report back?

Bumping a thread from the grave is just bad netiquette, just like typing in all caps, or trolling and flaming. Bumping a thread this old asking about a recall that happened years ago is just a simple phone call away to your local dealership.

You will understand when you spend more time on forums. It's fine if the thread is recent but when you pull some thread from the grave it's just beyond stupid.

Oh and looky what we have here:
5th Gen "I AM NEW HERE BUT HAVE A QUESTION" thread
This thread is for the new members so that they are able to post a question. It can be ANYTHING that is 5th generation related. If we think it is important, we will either answer or make it into its own thread. If not, we will delete it.

This is only for LEGIT 5th Gen questions that may be specific to one user.
