Another one from the Home Depot Mod King..

Well, after trying out various attachments and mounting brackets for my MP3 player, none of which worked out right....some were in the wrong place, some too far to reach, some hard to read the screen while driving....decided to hit the Home Depot and make my own....this is most definitely the cheapest mod to date....a whopping $4 in materials.

As you can see in the below pics, used a piece of steel strapping, bent to a particular shape, and attached to the inside side of the bose unit via self-tapping metal screws (those little black screws on the radio bracket were not long enough). And yes, there is space in the frame of the radio so the screws don't touch any interior part of the Bose....The only other alteration I had to make was to snap off a 1" segment of the plastic "lip" behind the stereo...no big deal.

Painted the thing with metallic charcoal color which matches the center console of the car....mounted the Dell Jukebox holder (made by Belken) by using the threaded screw-in part and cutting out part of the cupholder mounting bracket insert (if you ever do it, you'll know what I'm talking about).

Anyhow, pics here (and next post has after pics)

I got a question, on the night picture, were the lights turned on? Coz ur radio and a/c bottoms didn't light up. btw..if the mp3 wan't holding there, it would look kind of ugly..nice mod anyway....

no, the lights were off....oops.

obvioiusly it wouldn't look great just by itself...the MP3 player and Fm modulator I will always leave there, just take the player out...so you can't even see the bracket unless you look around the back....

It actually looks really good in person, I'm very surprised at how good it came out.....but I'm more concerned with function than form anyhow....

fm modulator sends the signal to your antenna, since the unit can't be hardwired into the Bose (no RCA outputs on the bose)....it's not a perfect signal, but I'm working on a few ideas to make it better. You can also get an adaptor that goes into the tape deck...my buttons are blue also, but they light up just fine....

yeah...I can't justify the $$ when the Bose sounds just fine for my purposes....but if I can find a $4 mp3 headunit, I'll be sure to buy it

yeah, that's where my clutch master cylinder leaked....Nissan replaced all my floormats, but they didn't clean the little bit of carpet you can see there....my car's a total mess right now...need to detail this weekend.

Keys? I don't have that many....my car, my wife's Mazda, 2 for home (handle/deadbolt), manager's key for my weekend job, key to my office for the day-job...that's about it.

I had the fm modulator for my new ipod but to me it was unclear. I tried all the freqencies. I ended up returning to the apple store. i bought one of the tape adapters for it and it sounds better than my cd's do.

It's been discussed several times in other threads....the problem is that even if you were able to splice the cable, the head unit would not recognize the MP3 as a CD Changer. That's why you can only use SPECIFIC CD changers with the Bose head unit...they have a different kind of electronic signal or something.....Also the CD changer wire has more wires in it than a headphone jack (which only has 2)....

the Mazda has red gauges......and it is far superior to the ford focus, which it shares some features from.....

I know that they are both GM, but I remember when the alero came out. It was all about being this super different car. I believe you if you say so, just adding my .02

And, yes Irish, no life here. Actually watching the great debate. I would like to see them have a bare knuckle fight in the middle of that floor. 1st rule of Election Club, don't talk about Election Club!

That's very funny, because that is EXACTLY what I just said to my wife....about the bare-knuckle fight. Great minds think alike. Bush is looking good tonight, unlike the first debate.

CAN KERRY JUST ANSWER A DIRECT QUESTION????

He has danced around every direct question he was given... Jeeze. Tell me what you are going to do DUDE! Stop telling me what the President did wrong, tell me what you are going to do, and not that pipe dream that you have a plan....

Lamin-X yellow film, and I just replaced my PIAA Crystal Ion yellow bulbs with Candlepower Gold bulbs, which have a better shade of yellow in my opinion (a little deeper than the PIAA's in that picture)....
