Just wanna know how people do mods.

I just curious about how many people actually do performance mods( intake, exhaust, strut, spring) on their cars with their own hands. My car is still stock.

Doing it with your own hands is so much cheaper (obviously). They are really not hard at all as long as you have the right tools. All of my mods were done by myself and the help of Section8 (our local car group).

For the major stuff (which on my car has been almost everything) I have a very good friend who is the Nissan Master Tech at a local dealerships who works from his home on nights and weekends. Extremely reasonable rates.

Small stuff like rewiring fogs to come on with parking lights I can do myself. There's a high degree of comfort knowing that the person working on your car really knows what they are doing.

But, if you've got the time and tools and don't mind learning on your car, doing it yourself is the way to go.

I do all my mods myself....before i buy/start the mod, I make sure i can do it with my tools/facilities. Only exception is if I need the use of a lift, then I let the guys in the shop help me out (but I never let them DO the mod...).

Half of the guys who work in shops don't know JACK about cars, and chances are they don't know much more about your Maxima than you do (if not less)....I would never leave my ride with some shop monkeys to instally mods.....car only gets outside work on it if it's warranty work from Nissan....

I will try to do it on my own or with some helps.
There's no "trying"..There's only "doing" and "not doing".....

And comparing the 24 people syaing they do their own vs. 5 who don't in this poll, I'm betting people are talking about changing light bulbs, not putting in springs and struts....

hehe but some people consider putting on their FSTB a "performance mod", and any monkey can install one of those...

maybe you should start a new thread to ask this question instead of hijacking this one . Either way, the answer is "no". Have you ever seen the size of the 5.6 V8? It's f-ing big.

as far as I know, the A6 doesn't have a V8...it has a 6...But a titan is ALOT bigger than an A6 (or A8 for that matter) :grinno

That would be one hell of a custom bulging hood to fit that monster in our cars.

While at it, where are you going to put the transmission? In the passenger seat area?

nah I think the tranny will be sticking out on the left lane next to the lane you are traveling on. Fitting the VK56DE into a FWD car would be impossible, the engine is massive, its designed for RWD and not transverse duty. I'm sure you could fit it in a 240SX thou.... I am actually toying with that idea if I ever come up with some tall cash. For now doing cams n **** like that on my VQ30 is next. Along with the Nismo heads VK45DE valves, Tomei 272s on a 3.5L 11:1 compression block.

I do all my own mods. From bulbs to springs to exhaust. Tint of course is out of the question for me, or if i'm too lazy or can't do something specific will i only take it to my trusty SR20DEN!!! Paint work is not my forte either.

I try to do all that I can (exhaust, intake, lights), but things requiring a lift or power tools (or even just more experience) like struts/springs, I get help from friends or as I have done recently, other org members.....

I've done all my own mod's. Don't need any goofy mechianic messing up my stuff... I'm just as capable of screwing up my own crap. Although I've been lucky so far.

Ive done all the work on my car with my own two hands except for the tint. I think it is so much more rewarding to do the job yourself. You build a great bond with your car.

And to answer the question about learning how to do this stuff. It is a lot of trial and error, and you can learn a lot from your fellow org members. It also helps to be mechanically inclined, but we all have to start somewhere.

DIY'er here.

JIC's
RSB
FSTB
Berk intake
B&M short shifter

nothing out of the ordinary, but then again, I dont want to plauge my car with mods. oil changes are a pain when you can barely squeeze the oil drain bucket underneath the drain plug.

The A6 comes in (disregarding years) 2.8, 2.7T, 3.0, and 4.2 (V8), RS6 comes with the 4.2 twin turbo.

I wish I had the tools and a driveway to work on my car, if I did then I would probably attempt to mod the car myself. . but without tools or workspace, I'm left with no choice but to have someone do the work for me.
