Weird Noise/shaking

the tcs off light AND the slip light comes on from the time i start the car and the idle is a little weird..the car is stuttering/shaking..and when im driving i can hear noise i think coming from teh exhuast? it used to happen before a few times but it went away after a minute or two..today it stayed on for like half hour while i was driving and its annoying as hell. car is fine in the higher rpm ranges...but until 2,7000rpm its defly not the same..
almost feels like the catbacks not there..its some nasty stuttering noise.. maybe like bees in a can? i dunno
and the last time i started the car...nothing
any ideas??

my mods: frankencar intake, 5 speed conv, greddy exhaust...the rest shouldnt have to do with the noise issue...

Sounds like mine when I got one of the colis shot. Weird thing about it was that it would go away and only SES stayed and car was normal. Then SES would go as well like nothing happened. Then, after couple weeks it would come back, always at the engine start. Pooled the code and it clearly stated the faulty coil, including cilinder number. Replaced the coil - no problems afterwards. BTW, mine was bone stock engine mods wise.

Bet its the coils. Go to the Zone, pull the codes, bet its 1320. If so, get 6 new coils online for ~$300.00 and change them yourself

I have the EXACT problem. The SES/trac/Slip light are on, the car idles roughly (like it's going to stall) and the power isn't there. The gas mileage is crap too.

Yes, I'd start from that. In my case friend of mine pulled codes for me, we built simple reader for ourselves while back. I recall that code itself included number of the cilinder with problem coil. I was lucky as it was the front middle one - really easy to access. I've bought 1 coil from the dealer (40 CAD$(!)), installed myself and didn't have anything to complain about ever since. My mileage is normal now; I didn't let it go for long enough to notice the difference when the coil was shot. It also didn't stay long enough too: half a day max.

It's up to you. I thought that replacing the whole pack is overkill and so far (4+months) so good.

Update:
the things that weren't normal were two codes in particular:
P1320 - i heard that this is due to the ignition coil
P0301 Cylinder 1 misfire

a third which is questionable... P0740 - circuit malfunction? - this might be due to the 5 speed tranny swap though..

are the two 1320 and 0301 problems interrelated? i need some detail as to what the codes mean..what would i need to buy to fix this problem? im tired of getting crappy gas mileage/random shaking of the car and rough idle. i already changed pcv valve recently, cleaned throttle body..
