have a 2000se with 49k auto. the car runs fine with the exception of pinging every so often. i was wondering if i would benefit from replacing the coils and plugs. sort of a preventive maintenance.

I would say if it pings in cold weather, then eighter your timing is advanced, or there is soo much carbon build up in the combustion chambers that it causes preignition. I would suggest you do the SeaFoam treatment along with a can of BG44K fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank. There is a tread bout it going in the 5th gen forum part right now. These are alot eassier and cheaper to do than coils and plugs. Plus it should help out your car alot, seeing how it has low miles for its age. I'm at 100K miles on my 01.

The least invasive thing you could do is put a can of BG44K (most dealerships $15-$20) in the gas tank when you fill up.
