Weird brake deal

Hi everyone.............hey, I just had my brake pads changed out (no scoring of rotor whatsoever) and noticed two things..............one, the brakes aren't as effective as they used to be........previously, my Max stopped on a dime..........now if feels more like a dollar.................second, my non-dealer mechanic charged me for "turning and resurfacing rotors"..................it thought that was only done if you scored your rotors, i.e, metal on metal contact....................anyway, any help welcome............................1138

Even if there is no scoring, they still warp and cause wobble. The rotors have to stay within spec thickness or else they cannot resurface.

You probaby need to bleed the brake system now.

put some water on them pads

see if that doesn't help. you have new pads, they need to break in, and a little water helps speed the process along

This is part of the break-in procedure for Hope brakes (for a mountain bike). The braking sucks at first, but as soon as you throw a little water on them, they suddenly grab like *****. It seems to help break the pads in a little faster as well.

I had the same problem when I replaced my pads and gave the old water trick a try, and it worked.

I would not try this at all...its a quick reciepe for warping rotors (especially undersized rotors and pads of the maxima)...water on a hot disk.....Follow manufacturers recommendations for break in of pads.

You have to follow a process of progressively hard stops with a cooling time in between to bed the pad properly. Anything else is just witch doctoring.
