New paint job

I am getting my car painted some time next week and i need to figure out what color to go with. I want to paint the car black, but my friend who is a painter at the shop suggested keeping it the same color and putting a blue pearl coat over it. The paint color change from black to silver is 4500 and the silver with blue pearl is 2500. What do you guys think?

I'd stay away from black. It looks great when it's shiny and clean but it shows every little scratch.

if you really want a distinct look, I've always thought about going to a M3 blue. That is of course if your willing to have one the only blue Maximas. I think it would come out great.

If you're willing to spend so much money on your car, why don't you try a color not offered by Nissan and the standard of quality that goes with it. I like that dark silver metallic color offered on some Mazdas.

I like my color but I still have a lot of swirl marks and stuff and wish I could paint this car over again because of the crappy Nissan paint chipping away on my 03.

Paint Job

I personally would spray the car the same color or something similar ( i.e. with the blue pearl ). My main reason for this is that unless the body shop is going to pull the motor, lines, and all other components, you may still be able to see your original color under the hood.( Mainly the firewall and apron areas. ) If they don't shoot those areas, it'll bother you every time you pop the hood. Black is, as everyone has said, beautiful when clean. However, it's the hardest color to take care of. Silver on the other hand, is hard to color match, especially if it's tri-stage with pearl. ( Down the line, if you ever have to repaint certain panels. i.e. accidents ) You're choice....but I'd go with the silver (tri-stage).....then have them paint your rims black and keep the polished lip. Just my humble opinion. Whatever you decide, if the job is done well, you'll have no regrets!

Personally I would go with Silver of some sort. Doesn't show the dirt and scratches as bad as a dark color and looks better than white.

Get this one for bad luck, though. All of these happened to my Max within the last month. 1) Kicked up some road debris or something and wound up with two good dents on my hood. Pretty deep and showing primer. 2) Got both doors on the drivers side keyed while out at a restaurant. 3) Got rear ended by an uninsured motorist, rear bumper scratched to death. You could actually see her liscense number scratched into the paint of my bumper.

What upset me was that the only repair that was cost effective to make a claim against my insurance was for the rear ending (200 uninsured motorist deductable). The other two were either right under my deductable or so close it would have been a wash.

I just got the car back from the Shop and it looks awesome now. Not one rock chip on the bumper, fenders, hood, etc. And to make sure it stays that way I had a clear bra installed as well.

BTW I have a Black max and it is a PITA to keep it looking good.

I am deffinetly not using the black nissan paint code. I think i am going to use the carbon black paint code from bmw. I was also thinking about the m3 blue. The reason i want to stay away from the silver w/ pearl coat is that if i get a scratch or get in a accident then i can't touch it up. I know black is hard to keep up but as i said before i have had a black car and while it is biotch to keep clean, it looks so sweet after a wash and wax.

I also like a color that Lexus has on their ES300's. It's dark blue....almost black, but at certain angles you can can see the blue shine thru. NICE! If not, Mazda had a nice light goldish, silverish, pearlish color on their Mazda 6, but I guess... you're leaning more towards... dark colors...oh well, never mind!

I don't care what anyone says... if you have a black car & you're capable of keeping it clean at all times (i am) - there is NOTHING that looks better.

Id stay away from black since it shows any imperfection, scratch, and dirt. Although it may look good from far. Its so hard to keep it clean too.

I'd go with the silver blue pearl color. Another color I like is the dark grey from the IS300.

when its dirty it shows. But all cars show dirt. Some more then others but they all still show it. But when black is taken care of: You get insane results. I think Neptune Blue is also a sweet color. I think there is a max on here with the M3 blue or close to it.

Here is one more pics of my car shined up Good luck! Keep us updated!

Thank you all for your suggestions, many of the colors you guys have mentioned have crossed my mind, but in the end i decided to stick with my one true love (black). I will keep you guys updated on the car. It is getting dropped off today and i am also getting the rear fenders rolled and the stillen aero lip putt on so needless to say i am very excited. It should take a couple of weeks but i will keep everyone updated

Peace out

it really depnds one what your plan is. Is this going to be a daily driver? If you are goin to drive it daily, i would say stay away from black. Though it is beautiful when kept clean, if you drive it daily, it will get little scrathces here and there that will show up. If you get the gray w/ blue pearl it would be easier to maintain. If it is for a non daily driver, black/ cosmic black, jet black are all pretty good. But if you plan to make it a show car, you will need a better brighter color like blue. Candy blue would look awesome. Anyways, for the two you brought up, i vote for the blue pearl, but have you though of using another pearl color? I think the Blue pearl would not match the silver that well... or i mean as well... also, the more pearl you add the more cloudy your paint will look...

Also, your prices are really high, maybe look for another shop... 4500 for a 2 stage color change is pretty high. For 4500, you can get candy paint as well as body mods... and the 2500 is high for just a clearcoat...

When he repaints the car, ask ur body shop to mold your kit, itll look a lot smoother and custom...

cant wait to see the final product!

if you really go with black, maybe ask your painter for candy black... its super deep,
its a black base paint with a Candy Black clearcoat... it makes it look like liquid all the time...super deep black look! if your painter doesnt have it, house of kolours carries that color....

I thought about the candy black but i wasn't sure if they made such a color. Do you have any pics? Also this car is my daily driver, but i would still like to do the occasional car show(nothing major) so i am going to try and invest in one of those thick car covers. Do you think that would reduce the chance of scratching

GO BLUE!!!

I have a black 03 that I try to keep clean. It is so painful, every time I wash it I see all of the new chips. If the birds get to it the paint etches like concentrated acid is poured on it. I HATE NISSAN PAINT!!!!

i think you shouldn't change the color of your car.

what a nightmare. Never do that, it will never be the same.

Having it repainted is bad enough, i should know, i've been through it twice with this max : /.
Again, it's never the same. All these exotic colors are great, but you know black is understated, and as shown, if you put proper car to it, your car will be more bueatiful then you can imagine. Black will reflect every color and light perfectly.

Though, if your car wasn't baclk i don't recommend repainting it a new color.

my opinion.

Black is sexy, but I love that silver look on the 5th Gen, Keep the Silver add blue pearl.
