Can anyone confirm the speed limiter?

I have read that 2k+ maxima's have a speed limiter at ~148, is this true for all max's, or just the autos? And does it affect the 3.5s as well? I have seen 146 on flat ground, but never quite had the room to pull 148+. And i haven't really gotten the chance to open it up past 145 since i did my y-pipe and test pipe. Just curious if anyone can confirm or detest this limiter, and if there's any way around it.

My 00 GLE AUTO hit a soft limiter at 131mph.

GXE's with or without C&C should be limited to 118mph (S-speed rating on standard 15", H-rating on optional 16" but I believe are still limited to this speed)
SE's without C&C should be limited to 131mph (H-speed rating)
SE's with C&C and 16" should be limited to 131mph (H-speed rating)
SE's with C&C and 17" should be limited to 149mph (V-speed rating)
GLE's should be limited to 131mph (H-speed rating)

Remember the key word there is 'should' I'm not sure how some people are able to go above the speed limiters built into the ECU? For Nissan's sake of liability, I sure hope they would limit their cars based on the speed ratings of the OEM tires they put on there.

I have an 01 SE and it hit the limiter at about 135. Oh yeah, and it's an auto.

Is that a limiter or you just don't have the power to exceed that?

yeah my friend has an 01 AE auto and he said he shuts down at 135 too, i found that odd because so far i've not seen a limiter, and i've exceeded 135 regularly.

The more accurate way to test it is on a dyno.

I had my 95 up to 135, but I'm at 5500' elev, and my mods are in my sig above, when i first got it, the damn thing wouldn't go past 120, and I thought I had a limiter.

How much of it could be related to wind resistance? Granted this isn't a confrimation of a speed governor...only a personal experience.... My one try at "how fast will this thing go" topped out around 140. I say around 140 because at that speed, staring a the speedo wasn't my primary concern. (01 AE/auto/stock).

wow so it looks like the autos 2k+ have a limiter whether 130 or 135 depending on year/trim, but then zuprman seems to not have the limiter. All this is very inconsistent, i wonder if nissan has published anything about this????

It isn't that highly variable(130 - 145 pretty close to 10% diff.) . I'd say some of it would be from car to car variability. (miles on car, tires, road condition, climate...)

i never heard the 143, only 148, and when i hit 146 my car had 97K miles, Greddy Cat back, and i sawed the front panel off the airbox and replaced the oil separator with a 3" akimoto intake piece from a 95 accord dx/lx. Had original spark plugs that needed to be replaced, and i had bought the car 2 months prior. In my group of friends we have three 2000s including myself, and one 98. The 98 has hit 143 with 3 people and 3/4 tank of gas, my friends stock 00 will hit 140, but it's not quite as happy doing so, and he has 62k.

From what I understand, top speed for 2k with the 5-speed is 143mph, and for the auto, it's 130mph. But it's been alot of reports that guys with the auto can't get past 120mph(only for a 2k-2k1). I personally think it has a lot to do with fed & cali ecu difference, in which fed-spec has the higher top speed. I also think my limiter is at 120mph.

2k2-2k3 can go 146mhp with the 6-speed, and 130mph for the auto.

Please stop posting irrelevant info on what mods you have, because your intakes and mufflers don't do jack to bump up the maximum speed.

When replying to this thread, please post your car's trim level (GXE, SE, or GLE) and your tranny (auto or manual). Let's see if manual tranny equipped cars have a different limiter, or dont have it at all...

Oh well, 22 posts and we can't all agree on something, and we shouldn't be going that fast on public roads anyway.

Get on a dyno and confirm for yourself whoever started this thread.

150? wow. Just out of curiousity what's your prod date? I was on 95 in N. carolina playing with a 328i, he kinda falls off around 135, if i hold him in my draft i can pull him to almost 140, but then he falls behind, but it does take a while to go from 137 to 145, so i assume it must take quite a bit to get to 150. I'd like to get there with my newer mods. i guess that answers my questions, thanks guys

I'm not trying to stomp on people but If I modded engine wize I would take it to the street. I don't get a chance to hit the track every weekend like some people so the street is my track. is all good to beat someone on the black top but what are you going to do when the person sees you on the street, personatly I think thats when the big ***** come in.

Or stupidity, the way you're talking it seems like you have no regards for others on the road.

I've done my share of spirited driving, but please respect other cars and try to do it by yourself.

It was about 135 my car shuddered and wouldn't go faster. I wasn't looking at the speedo so I might've hit 140, but am almost positive it didn't go further. My RPM's were maxed out too so I don't think I could've gone any faster. I've only done this once when the car was still new to me and really don't want to do it again so....

my 2k 5-speed hit limiter at 142 with the following tires 225 45 17. it might be that there is a necessity for speed correction due to the tire size can anyone verify?
