Story - headlights stolen and headlight poll

i woke up this morning and found my headlights missing. nothing new for many org members, but this was a first for me.

thing is, i have a 2002 SE which i switched out the lights on. i took out the HID's and put in the AE headlights. so i don't know if the idiots jumped without taking a close look, but now my car has no lights. thankfully they didn't mess up my fender or hood. they broke the driverside door lock and got into the car and popped the hood. this all happened within a 2 hour time frame too. i came home at 2:30 am, and my dad left for work at 4:30, am.

so now i'm stuck with the task of finding my baby some new lights.
i searched ebay and found that these new projector lights have showed up.
Projector lights

tell me what you guys think. my car's black, and i think it would look OK. not spectacular but aiite......the other option, is to put in my HID's and risk losing them, or finding another pair of 2000 or 2001 headlights.

oh. if there's anyone that wants to sell a pair of 2000 or 2001's please let me know? thanks

I have a pair of 2001 AE headlights I would sell. These have been used for 6 months. The passenger side lamp needs to be buffed in two spots.
I just got the Projector lights on Custom Maxima. Black with clear lens.
They look awesome and there is no gap in between the bumper and headlamps.

That sucks, Someone probably followed you home. I dont know where you live, but if you think it will probably happen again then get the projectors. Dont get stock 2000, 2001. That is one of the style changes that are most sort after mod

I guess the thieves around me are pretty smart on that, I switched the heads and tails to 2k1's and I have parked my car in places where 2k2's are hit at the same time while my car is parked there and no problems so far.

You have a black Max anyway, switch to 2k1 tails, they look better.

HID Security Strap

EddiexAhn, I am really sorry to here someone once again got their HID's stolen. What state do you live in? Just curious. I just put on my HID's from Performance_Depot, and am concerned about possible theft. I have drawn up a strap design that will surround the front of the headlights, looking like eye lids, upper and lower (except they connect together in the middle of the light, forming circles around the high and low beam), and go around the top and bottom, then attach to multiple places in the engine compartment. I am going to take the design to a race car welder/fabricator I know as soon as I can, and see what it would take to make this "HID Security Strap". I would prefer it be made out of stainless steel, for strength and rust resistence. I will design this to be functional and stylish. I will post updates as they become available. This may take a few weeks. Stay tuned. I am determined to do this, and end this BS once and for all.

Some Bastards attempted to steal my HID's twice already. They damaged to fenders ,hood and bumper.I had to paint the whole front. The HID's still on,maybe because of my homemade brackets?

People probably canvase this forum to see where members are to target them. See who has what and steals from the proper location. Disgusting.

HID theft now has hit FL, i think i am going to make a custom strap of some type this weekend. My dad is pretty good when it comes with out of the box ideas , so i am going to go to him for suggestions. I was thinking of the same ideas a stailess steel strap or bracket of some sort. I want to make it so sturdy and complicated that if they try to steal my lights they will mess them up in the process making the housing , bulbs , etc useless....

This is getting out of control. when i first started hearing about the problem in ny i wasn't reall that concerned. then it started in boston and now i check on my car at least two to three times a night. i have a baseball bat at my front door just in case i have to run out there one night......i plan on keeping this car for many years and the sad thing is that i will probably have my lights stolen at least once..........

Excellent!! Let's all give this some serious thought and pool our ideas and designs, and see what we can come up with!! Keep us posted!! Whatever we come up with should be posted here, and possibly made available for others on the org to consider making or buying.

I thought of this about 7months ago, problem is that they dont care how hard the HID's are to steal, they will break everything that you put on to get to them. Unfortunately for the ones that stole my HID's the first time, i know where they live and who they are. Down here in Miami, its just an ongoing problem, they are now stealing AE Edition headlight, HID's, All Porsche, and Even the HID aftermarket kits that hondas usually put. If the theft is really bad in Orlando, yea its a good idea to make something that they would have to work through to get the lights, but then again you have the point that they will mess your hood, fenders, and door up to get your lights outs. That means, not only will they probably not get the lights, but they will break em, bend the hood & fenders, scratch it up. Plus pop your handle out to overide something in the door handle to pop ur hood open. Worst case scenerio.

I didnt write anything to put your idea down in any way, but truthfully it bothers me that they steal HID's instead of getting real jobs like everyone else. Plus with all the money i have spent on lights, i still have a messed up hood and fenders.

I have an 01 and don't have the problem like you guys 02-03. Try to do this and maybe will give you some time to get to them.. If you park your car outside, park it close to the garage door, I might say hit the garage door to block them from going to the front of the car. It will look weird fo r someone to do some work oin a acar from the side, If someone pass along when they are stealing them. BUY an aftermarket ALARm, I know most of them are crap, but at least will meke them work faster. Add all the Motion sensor and put it as sensitive as possible screw the neighbors...... leave a light on at night, etc etc etc.........

What i want to know is where does he live and what area did he get target.

My idea is simple, apply a tazer high voltate discharge under the hood prop and under the door handels while the alarm is activated, thus at the simple touch you get zapped with 8400000 watts of power, thus disabling you helpless and sounding the alarm , then you go out side and beat them to a pulp while they are lying helpless on the floor

then you as a good person release them free and take there wallet.
if they come back, shoot them.

Other option i have is a bit extreme.

Live gernade under the headlight. as they remove the light, everything blows up, yet you have destroyed your but you have been sucessfully removed one more theif off the road. (having compreshensive insurance helps)

Removalable Headlights

Park the car, unplug / remove headlights, apply cover, go home

Major problem is the door locks being broken in to or windows being broken.

it is very easy to protect your hood and front of the car. Putting a grill in the front of the lights is also posibile.

the door is the problem.

i have considered removing the doors and replacing it with a passenger doors, yet your chance to use the key is removed and you depend on your remote less key to enter and exit your vehice.

Metal sliding covers that cover the lights after you park and lock / key? *ugly*

You tell me whats good.

I heard a rumor that they use the ballasts from our HID's as stun guns. They don't always use them on cars.

Just a rumor I heard from a buddy at Nissan dealer.

Very true, but that is why all of us have insurance.... If they destroy my front end then i will be getting a new front end ,all the thieves will be getting are broken HIDs.

Ya im am considering an aftermarket alarm system, with ensitive sensors that even if a person walks right next to it, it will alarm... thats also a great idea to park closer to the garage door so that way they cant get to the front of the car, as it will make it harder for them..but maybe a car cover will also help, that means they have to do more work..

My dad gave me this idea as an option, buy a case for our bulbs and when we know we are going to be away from our cars for a while or leave our cars out over night somewhere shady, we take our bulbs with us and store them in a saftey case. Only the stupidist of thieves will try and take out the headlights first without checking to see if the HID bulbs are in the housing .

Then again , if they do take the HID housing out from your car , they will get a pleasent surprise when they check and the bulbs are gone!
It may be a pain , but hey its one option to many options out there.....

Parking close to a wall or garage door is a great option if there is one availabe to you.because think about it , if your max is parked against a wall or a garage they will have 2 options (1) break into your car by window or door lock which will sound off the alarm (2) knock the garage door down or knock the wall down, which if they go to that extreme there border line nuts!

yeah and your battery will be drained at fast rate too... look it doesnt really matter if you have alarm or not. If they really want to, they will take it... didnt nissan say that they will provide free hid brackets if you call them? I believe there was an article on that...
Oh and also if your alarm will disturb anyone at night, the cops will open your door, open your trunk, and kill the alarm, i ve seen it done few times in my area... good luck...

My friend actually got his car broken into 4 times... so he decided hes going to sleep in a van right next to his car. Thiefs arrived at nite and he came out with 2 big *** pipe wrenches at them- still fighting with the court over braking one dudes skull open. I hate our friggn court system, thiefs still have the rights to sue ya cause you beat the **** out of them for trying to steal your ****. Friday at work someone tried to open up my car- one of the porters drives up to the car and goes Hey what U doing ? Dude is like oh nothing, do you know the owner of the car and is he around ? Porter is like yeah hes inside lemme go get him.... the dude runs into his car and takes off. I get out there with a NAIL gun loaded with 1000 rounds of 2" long nails and no safety on it.... guy was gone already. I dunno WTF they wanted from my car but this was on private property in broad dail light ! I will kill the phuckers if they try doing something to my car.

What if we take up the idea suggested earlier
-- that we each remove our bulbs when we leave the car...
-- then design a decal that we display on the window or any visible place indicating that the car has no HID lights
-- this will alert the thieve of the fact, and i'm sure they will verify it -
-- at best, they will leave the car alone, at worst, they will vandalize it
-- the issue is who knows how much damage they will cause..particularly,if they break the HID housing, then it probably defeats the purpose..as we may end up replacing it anyway
-- but this will only work if the housing itself (without the bulbs) is also in demand..

any thoughts?

No need for all that, All a thief has to do is go on cardomain, pick which state, and go shopping. Take a look at some of the sH** that people divulge on their cardomain page.......Jesus, why don't they just put a sign up that says "$1,000 of dollars of stuff, come and get it"

taking the lights out EVERY time you park is a hassle. one guy about a week ago was in a store for 2 minutes and they got one of his headlights...

i had an idea, of putting a battery powered unit in the housing. when disconnected, the unit emits a high pitched loud siren noise. the unit being integral with the housing, the sound follows the headlight. im thinking of a way to add a strobe, which would attract attention, hopefully immediately... or at least have the theives throw the light down after getting it out, for the sake of their hearing.

I had an idea once. It's called a jump to conclusions mat...

Sounds like a good idea though.

I hope my lights don't get stolen.

I think I will start by parking up against the wall, as suggested by many .orgers

That stinks man. I have a 2000 Maxima Se and someone in Newark thought the same thing and stole my left headlight and after taking it realized it was not a HID housing and left the other. Not only do I have one headlight... :-( but I also have screw driver marks on my fender, hood and bumper.

I see people have sets of 01 AE headlights for sale and I am really interseted in picking up a set... so if anyone is selling them, please let me know how much. Thanks and again man I feel your pain.

I think I will have to take out my HID's and go back to the halogen ones for a while until I can figure out a bracket to protect the ballast.
