Mechanics ever left a present?
Mechanics ever left a present?
Got my intake installed and oil changed yesterday afternoon and today my friend wanted to check it out. so he pops the hood and right away i notice a full quart of oil chilling on the computer bank that holds the ABS sensor etc... right next to the battery. it was a brand new bottle. i drove back to the place and gave it to the owner who seemed a little puzzled. no harm done. i've seen shows on discovery where doctors have left surgical items in patients so i guess this kinda was the same thing.
I can go you a bit better on my previous car (2K Monte Carlo)...
While cleaning out the rear floor board after about a year of ownership, behind the driver's seat, I lifted the floor mat and started vacuuming across. I noticed a "hump" in the carpet there and so, being the curious type, I pressed the hump to see if I could determine the cause. I figured, at first, it was where some idiot had tried to jack the car at the wrong point but I noticed almost immediately that it was way too small or at least not large enough for a jack to have made it.
I then pressed harder and noticed it was pointed at one end and was shaped almost like a triangle. Well, curiosity got the best of me so I pressed hard enough so the end of the "triangle" came through the carpet. Then, dumbfounded, I got my wife to take a look. She confirmed my thoughts on the matter...
It was the business end of a PAIR OF NEEDLE NOSE PLIARS! I'm not talking just under the carpet, I'm talking between the undercarriage pan and the interior floor pan! Between the metal plates!
This has GOT to be some kind of record for things left inside a vehicle. This one was done at the factory where the car was made!
I wish I had a digital camera because the car is still for sale at the dealership I traded it in at and I would love to post a picture of this.
I know, this was not done at the dealership but I thought it might make some of you feel better about your cars the next time a mechanic forgets a wrench or a screwdriver under the hood.

I found a screwdriver on my mom's car after taking it in for a heater core replacement... promptly returned it later that day, they were surprised ("Nah most the times these things never come back!")

Nope, but I once checked my oil and forgot to put the oil cap back on. My wife called me at work and said the car was smoking and basically buggared. I thought "Great, time for a new car!" (it was my 93 sentra). I opened the hood up and the engine bay was soaked in oil everywhere. Then I saw, sitting happily, the oil cap (it had lodged itself in somewhere and not fallen out, thankfully). I put it back on, replaced 1/2 or a full quart of oil, and paid somebody $60 to hose down the engine bay. When they were done it looked really nice
My dad just had his waterpump replaced from the dealership. I drove the car and noticed some rattling/loose metal noise coming from the front. I opened the hood and guess what I found? A couple of expensive Snap-on tools (sockets, etc.) in the front windshield area near the wipers.
Cool huh?

wanda sykes is too funny
(Friends car)Driving down the road after getting an oil changed and hear the most god aweful bang hit several places under the car. It sounded like it was coming through the floor. Look in the rearview mirror and see the rachet and attachment flipping down the road. I said, "maybe they will give you a free oil change if you return it". It was a SnapOn rachet. We took it back and the guy laughed and said, "I can't give you a free oil change for bringing it back". My friend got back in his car and left with his new free Rachet!

only time I took my car to the shop, they left a few bolts out of a tranny mount and impacted the wheels on it so bad I had to get a 3/4" drive industrial impact to get them off.. They also left cig butts and ashes all over my front seat.. looked to me like they'd used it to do some parts running and never cleaned up.

After that, I swore I'd do everything myself, and I have- including tranny rebuilds.
But ummm yeah.. my "mechanic" leaves wrenches in there all the time. the strut towers are the first place I look when I can't find my wrenches in the tool box.
