i am a noob here, so please explain a few things to me. first, what is the difference between a b-pipe and a y-pipe. i was under the impression that a y-pipe was better. also, i was under the impression that the catman headers and pipe would increase horsepower by 22-27 horse power. you only increased 21.1. i would assume that with the addition of a cai and a less restrictive muffler, you should be around 25-30 extra horsepower. please help clarify this for me

A Y-Pipe is what connects to the headers and comes down and connects to the cat. A B-Pipe aka Mid-Pipe is the pipe connected directly after the cat and before the muffler.

The gains were on a Mustang Dyno which puts the car under a real life load/stress at the wheels. So the numbers are a little off compared to a normal Dyno Jet. So ideally the gains I got from the mods still are normal.

Another thing is I am running extremely LEAN and if corrected can produce an additional 5-12+ WHP if corrected with a Greddy E-Manage or Apexi AFC-II.

i dont understand how you can be at 216 after those mods. i was under the impression that the maxima came with 222 horsepower.

Do your homework and read the faq's before posting.

These dyno sheets show how much hp/tq at the wheel and not the crank.

The 2000/2001 Maximas had 222 hp at the crank (AE Maximas had 227)

The 2002/2003 Maximas had 255 hp at the crank (supposedly)

ynot411: Mustang Dyno or not, those numbers are insanely low. You've got headers and only gained 20HP and not even 5TQ? That makes no sense to me.

does the rich/lean refer to fuel in the mixture? If so, how does one know if they are running with lean fuel mix, and how do you fix it....yo?

What suprised me is how much torque he lost under 4K.

Why do people have to be so damn rude on here.. maybe he did read the FAQs and still didnt understand. Maybe its easier for some people to understand better having people answer their questions as they ask them. If you dont like the post then move on to another....This website has been extremely helpful for everyone and i dont think it needs any hate from people with nothing better to do...

It's not being rude, it is the same story over and over and newbies don't bother looking at the stickies before posting a question. It is basic information that anyone can understand.

i did look at most of the stickies. please keep in mind that in total there are hundreds of pages regarding stickies. there were over 8 alone in the stillen headers thread. dont get all flapped up, i was just asking a question, which you answered for me. i am also still in the dark as to what an AE maxima is.

Yes, I was disappointed in a way but there is no motor that is identical. Let me use the analogy of women (I don't mean to offend anyone), you can have identical twin sisters that look the same as far as size, height, and weight; but may have different personalities, emotions, etc.

Our engines are similar to that as well. Also there are so many variables to factor out like weather conditions, different dyno machines, other mods that could affect the outcome, etc.

I know that I have a slight problem with having some excessive noise (rattling) in or around my lower exhaust manifold. I am working on locating/finding out what exactly the noise is. I assumed it was a few of the "white" sand blasting pebbles but I removed a small portion of the Y-Pipe (portion right in front of the cat) and punched the gas and no pebbles came out. So I'm stuck in a hard place right now. The noise is getting really annoying and I'm hoping I dont have to remove the rear headers. If anyone has any suggestions or assume what it may be PLEASE voice your opinion.

ynot411: Why I understand what you're saying, you have to realize that few, if anybody here, have received such low gains. Your TQ especially bothers me. You're short about 10-12HP and short about 20-25TQ to get near the average numbers that people gain with a setup like yours.

Stillen or Cattman Y-pipe, Berk or Stillen Intake and an axel back PowerTech exhaust (or simillar) and you should see some very good gains.

Cattman Ypipe, Underdrive pulley- aka UDP, Place Racing CAI, tranny cooler and valve body mod. Don't waste your $$$ on exhaust as it makes automatic tranny 3.0s sound like a$$ and gives very little HP per dollar spend.
