Maxima messup?

Ok i started up my 2000 SE today, and it started to shake. Idle, driving, it didn't matter. It was really shaking. Then, all of a sudden my check engine light comes on and stays on. I popped the hood, checked everything, and I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. I brought it to a local midas place. (it was the closest thing). They took it for a test drive, and when they got back they told me everything was fine. I got in the car, and it really was fine. the ony thing that stayed on was the check engine light. I am baffled. If anyone has had similar problems let me know. I would appreciate any help.

Thanks

Guessing bad coils. Mine does the same thing. It'll do that once or twice every 5000 miles.

sounds like the MAF to me, mine did that when i had a bad MAF, and it would especially shake when coming to a stop.

If the shaking started at startup and lasted a few min I bet it is the coils. Mine did the same thing and the code was 1320. See what the code is and if its 1320, replace all six coils.

If you dont have warranty replacing the coils are going to be expensive... you can do it if you are handy with tools.... but start calling places and DAVEB and see what price does he givis you... Good luck man.....

I don't have an autozone here. I'll try advance auto to see if they have a diagnostic machine. If not, i'll have to go to a nissan dealership and see if they will do a diagnostic service for me. Thanks for all the help. So i know the coil code is 1320, but what is the MAF code? And also if it is the MAF, i read on the org a while back that there is a good/bad MAF, and there was info on the good one. Does anyone know where to get that? Thanks again for the help!

The exact same thing happened to my 2000 max and the dealer found out it was the coils.

I'd think a bad MAF would be more consistent. Intermittent flakyness is probably the coils.

FYI- all 6 ignition coils (DO REPLACE all 6 of them, if you do it at all) should run a little over $300 for the parts from DAVEB.

Likewise, a MAF is less than $100 through him I believe?

Ok, I finally got the SES light diagnosed. The code is P0305. The computer said it registered a misfire in cylinder number 5. BUT, that code means that there are 18 possible things to check as to the reason for this misfire. Some of them as simple as checking for an air intake leak, all the way to checking the injectors. I am wondering if anyone has gotten this code before (it's certainly not the 1320 indicating a coil failing) and I was wondering if anyone has had simliar experiences with this. Please let me know.

well my 2001 max does the shake thing too, does yours do it all the time everytime? mine doesn't and sometimes if it happens and I shut the car off wait a sec, start up again it will be fine, confusing. My check engine light has been on for 4 months, the last time I had oil changed and air filter changed the light went out for about 4 days but has been on since. I think the car feels a little draggy, air intake? I wish I knew. How much is it to have the computer check it out?

That's exactly what happend to my car the first time. When I turned the car on it shook horribly. When I had the guy at Midas test drive it, he said it was fine. So I tested it out when I got back in the car and it really was much better. My car isn't really shaking anymore, but the check engine light stayed on until I had the guys at my local tire store do a diagnostic on the SES light and try to pull a code. They must have turned off the SES light because it's not on anymore. I am probably going to start cheap, by replacing the spark plugs and see if that fixes the misfire in cylinder number 5. If you have the same problem then we should probably look into it. I dont think it's good to leave your check engine light on for 4 months and not do anything about it....

I am due for oil change next week, will have it done at nissan dealer so I can have them hook up to get a code. I think its wierd how after my air filter was changed the light went off for a few days and it didn't feel like it was dragging but then light back on and feeling of loss of HP back. how long has it been since your car stopped shaking? and it just stopped on it's own right? mine has no rhyme or reason, it shakes sometimes then seems to straighten it's self out for awhile. have you heard of others with this problem besides us?

There's a GD in the GD forum for all 6 coils for $230 (or $215 if we can get more people). I already placed my order and should get them soon =) (I placed my order and paid but if we get more people for the lower price, he'll refund the difference).
