Steering radius...

The one thing I can really complain about on this car is the turing radius. Edmunds specs have it at 40ft, which is one of the highest I've seen! I know personally that it sucks too (as I'm sure you all do).

I wouldn't suppose there's anything you could do about it, short of restructuring the entire front-end....

there was a dscussion regarding the exact problem a few months ago and i believe the course of action to try and remedy this you would have to decreas the cars wheel base, shorter wheelbase= less distance required for a u-turn.

there was also talk of taking out the bumb-stops. Sounded like it decreased the radius by a few feet, but still sucked.

yeah, coming from my accord, this turning radius is terrible. i only noticed it when i came to making a u turn on a t street, and i couldnt swing the turn, i had to allow a lot more room than i was used to. not a terrible thing, but the turning radius seems to be larger than my old 92 cougar too, haha.

I think the Acura TL has somewhat the same turning radius too.
According to the last thread, someone claimed that their GXE turned less a radius that a SE.

yea, that was due to the diff in suspension work between the gxe and the se, the gxe's have different bumpstops on the actual car which is what created the diff between them.

Exactly how can you decrease a car's wheelbase? Smaller tires would sort of qualify, but other than that??

Easy, cut it in half, remove about six inches from the middle, and weld it back together!

Yes, cars with shorter wheel bases have smaller turning radiuses, but so do cars that are set up to allow the front wheels to turn more than 10 degrees. The Nissan suspension is a poor design. But hey, we can't have everything, right?!? Just remember, if there were no ugly women in the world, the good looking ones wouldn't look so good!

the bump stop is there for a reason...to protect the power steering pump from going out.
do you think nissan was sitting there thinking "how can we reduce the turning radius to **** people off? i know..lets put bumpstops in"
