2003 Maxima Brake Rotors...

All,

I saw in the TSB thread atop this forum that brake rotors were now covered under the "3 year, 36K mile" bumper-to-bumper warranty. The original picture is now gone, though.

Does anyone know where I can access a copy of this? My brakes are acting up and when I went to the dealership today they wanted to outright tell me that the brakes were NOT covered under warranty at all unless it was a mechanical failure.

Thanks, everyone!

The TSB thread at the top of the forum indicates that brake rotors are now covered under the bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Was this misinformation that needs to be deleted from that thread?

That's the specific post. The thread is the sticky at the top of the forum that lists all of the Technical Service Bulletins.

The TSB I saw was dated Oct 31, 2000. The TSB does say the brake judder repair is covered under the 3 year/36K miles warranty. It is applicable to Maxima 2000 only. I don't know is there is a new TSB to cover the brake stuffs for newer Maxima under the 3yr warranty or not.

My dealership resurfaced my '03 at 30k free of charge. Of course I had it in for other things as well when they did it (around $400 worth of flush/fills, tune-ups, ect.) Don't know if it was just good service or a TSB however

Thanks, guys! I'll see what the dealership says when they give me a call.

Here's hoping that it's either covered under warranty or cheap and easy. Though, I highly doubt it.

Max'ers

My 2K3 had 28K miles on it. Went to the stealer with brake judder.

Got new rotors and front linings installed on warranty.

The brakes were not abused but frankly, the rotors just warped!

now....I have to look at the backs.

thanks

That's good news! I have 30k and I'm taking her in for brakes tomorrow (Wed). I feel a little judder in the front, hopefully it won't be a hassle to get new rotors. My rears are starting to act up as well, however, I think I just need new pads, hopefully...

They just called and told me I needed new brakes all around. Rotors included in the rear. $169 for the front, $400+ for the rear. I told them I'll just pay for the inspection, but that I can't do it right now.

Going to do the rears myself tonight.

*Update*
-Rear pads are gone, GaMax97GLE has an extra set to give me
-Front Rotors are warped, Dealership wanted to charge $90 for resurfacing, not included in 36k warrenty but in the 12k. I'll have to call another Nissan guy to see if he can help.
What did you guys say/tell the Nissan Service Advisors to get the brakes covered under warrenty? Shoot, if they're gonna try and charge me 90 bucks for resurfacing, might as well get some power slots.

The warped brakes ARE covered under warranty! I've got an 03 SE with 24k on it and I'm on my 3rd set of rotors, and the way the brakes are starting to act I'll have a new set within the next 5k miles. Don't let the dealer tell you any crap about it not being covered. Take a copy of the TSB and stick it in his face and tell them to fix them and shut up.

All I can find is the TSB for the '00. I'll see if they give me the run around b/c mine is an '03. Did you use TSB or did they just do it? Thanks.

I couldn't get them to budge at all. They said since it wasn't a "mechanical failure," that the brakes were not covered. My driver's side rear inner pad was COMPLETELY gone. It was grinding the rotor away, and that's the noise I was hearing.

One thing to note about the install on the rear: The pistons don't compress without a ratcheting tool! I wasn't aware of this at the time, but, found out after I had taken both sides completely apart. Had to borrow the tool from a friend of mine's shop, and after I got it the job was super easy. Had I posessed the tool when I started the job, it probably would've taken an hour from start to finish on both sides.

Needless to say, Nissan Corporate will be hearing from me. I purchased this car "Certified" just 3 months ago. Brake pads do not go away in 3 months (especially with how I drive). Had the car been "Certified," I'd at least expect them to tell me that the brakes were about to wear out in the rear. I still don't see that happening on a car with 27k miles, unless the previous owner had really abused the car.

I am not a very pleased Nissan customer at the moment.

The first tech I spoke to said that it wasn't covered under the 36k. I talked to a different tech when I went to pick my car up and he remembered working with my brother, so we kind of shot the sheyat for a couple of minutes then I asked him about the brakes. He said it's up to the dealership and he couldn't really do anything. When they do warranty work like brakes, it comes from the relationship you have with the dealer (if you bought the car there or get it serviced there regularly). He did give me the name of the service manager and said try talking to him to plee my case. The downside of this dealership is this is only the second time I've been to this one. The car was bought and maintaned at another dealership. So long story short (too late), I have to call the service manager or go to the other dealership.
What has been your experience? Have you gone to another dealership from where it was bought and maintaned? I just want my damn rotors fixed without paying for it, is that so much to ask?

Nope -- I took it to the same dealership I bought it from. I figured that would at least give me some kind of credit. Apparently not.

I do know that I was much happier spending $100 to do it myself than I was spending $400+ for the stealership to do it.

Hey Man,
I just noticed that you live in Smyrna, what dealership did you go to? I took mine to Team Nissan on Cobb Parkway. I might try going back to Regal in Alpharetta where the car was bought new.

I decided to F the whole getting my rotors replaced under warrenty and get Power Slots instead. Bought them from Nopi.com (cheapest place I could find) and decided to stick with OEM pads from Jerry Rome. My brother has the Power Slots on his 2k1 and I like them alot. Hopefully they will be as good, if not better, on my 2k3.
