service engine light

My service engine light turned on today on my 2001 Maxima with about 35000 miles. I got a loaner OBD-II scanner from Autozone. Does anyone know where the OBD-II connector is in the car?

My car is still under extended warranty, but I would like to have an idea what the problem is before I take it in and pay a $50 deductible for warranty work.

Are there any common problems that happen at such a low mileage?

not sure on the problem but post up the results after you look under the steering wheel just slightly to the left towards the door. if i had to guess completely then i would say its one of the two secondary o2 sensors but post the code when you pull it.

I've never been charged a deductible for warranty work. Is that normal?

All my service engine light repairs have been fixed at the dealer for $0. (in fact I'll be going tomorrow for yet another engine light repair. code p0135)

edit: just noticed you said 'extended warranty' so I assume that's why there is a deductible.

different extended warranties have different deductibles. ive got a zero deductible on mine but have yet to use it even though i have had a good amount of work done. they covered it either under 3yr.36k or powertrain for 60k. i had p0140 which is the other secondary o2 sensor (P0135). they replaced both secondaries and flashed the ecu. make sure they do both for your repair.

My code is P0135. I guess they have to replace the oxygen sensor.

That is interesting, my check engine light came on friday night while driving home. I am at 68K miles and afraid to take to the dealership for fear they will bend me over. I know it has to go there anyway but I will hit Auto Zone as well.

My dealer said they will change the oxygen sensor under warranty, but wants to charge me $86 to turn off the service engin light? They said I have to get the computer calibrated every 15k miles and I never did it. Did any one else get this treatment from the dealer? I'm currently on the phone with Nissan USA trying to get this resolved while my car is still at the dealer.

that is absurb. if they insist, then have the part replaced then take it to autozone to have it resetted for free. there is no such process as having your computer calibrated. sounds like they are trying to get two hands in the cookie jar. collect from nissan on o2 replacement and diagnostic then have you repay for the same diagnosis.

After all of that nonsense from the dealer about charging to turn off the light, when I picked up the car and started it, the light was already off!
