Audio system vs. heated leather...

Alright, I want to do something to the interior of my car. It's pretty stock...no leather, standard audio system, no sunroof. I thought about the sunroof, but I ultimately decided I don't need it and it's too risky. So now I'm thinking either sound system (nothing too elaborate) or getting custom leather all around and putting heaters in the front seats. I'd like to spend under $1000, and I know that I can do the seats for like $600 or so, right???

So, which should I do, leather seats with front heaters, or the sound system?

Thanks,
Brian

yes leather seats are pretty nice, there is a GD on the leather seats.

then again, you can live with cloth for a few more months while you listen to your awesome new audio system if you want to get one. CDT and ARC audio are awesome brands and they are pretty OK priced.

You might have to spend 1000+ on your system though.

if you're not looking for anything too elaborate for audio, then why even do major upgrades for it..just get an mp3 deck

follow that with teh leather

I would definitely suggest the audio system. Like many have said, you can enjoy your stereo all year round, in and out of the car. For 1G, you can get a pretty good system. If that's your budget, then you'd have to make a few compromises. It also depends on if you have the Bose system or not. If the answer is no, it'll be easy. I'd suggest that you use the factory CD player and speakers for now. The factory speakers are not the greatest, but the separates in the front will sound pretty darn good if you amplify them. Look for a decent 4 channel amplifier to run your whole system...for now. Keep in mind, that all your choices should be made with the intent to upgrade, and not have to start all over. Look for an amp with a built in x-over, high level input, and maybe 50-75 watts x 4 channels. I would utilize the front 2 channels to run the mids and highs, and bridge the rear 2 channels to run you subs. Look into some pre-fabricated boxes for your low end. With those rear channels bridges, you'd be looking at about 100-150 watts. This will be enough to run a single 10" or 12" sub in a ported box. I would suggest JL Audio pre-made boxes. Their construction, look, and sound quality is excellent. You can expect to spend about $250-$400 for the amp, and about $200-$300 for the box. You also have enough $$$ for installation, or if you can do it yourself, a new deck or maybe speakers!

I think both options are worth having, but I vote for doing the stereo upgrade first.

Heated Leather. Will add to resale value, looks cools. IMO - Leather is not cold in winter if it's heated. Leather wears better than cloth, no stains, looks classier.

I would NOT buy a car without leather.

leather would make your car so much comfier and nice on the inside. and if it gets cold use the heat, i happen to use it quite often. leather doesnt get dirty like cloth, so your interior will be looking like new all the time with some conditioners. and the stains are easy to remove. plus the smell of leather makes you feel good too.
i wouldnt mind a stereo upgrade either, just get both!

Alright guys. I'm not quite sure how this thread came back to life after 5 months, but anyway...

I eventually decided on the sound system. I have since gotten the things in my sig. And, coincidently, I just ordered 2 subs and an amp today.

The leather may come someday, but audio is definitely more important now.

Go with the audio upgrade. Unheated seats heat up when your sitting in them and not before.

I agree with Bl_asd... if you live in a warm climate, forget the heat and the leather. But seeing how you are from NJ/PA... you might like them. But I would think the sound system is a first... gotta listen to the tunes while cruisin around. I don't know if I would spend $1000 on a system, I like the stock Bose... but oh well.

if you like the stock bose then you don't like tunes

a grand will get you a nice system but ICE is one of those things that one can easily go overboard with. i for one find ICE to be more of an addiction than car modding and drugs combined (but i don't do drugs i'm just making a ponit lol). i've probably spent almost 2k from all the various upgrades and changes i've done, i'm just never 100% happy with what i have, there's always something that tickles my fancy

I love having heated leather, and I use the heaters all the time. Girls love it too. Then again, sound system would be nice, but I'd say do the interior...

Hey ighetto thanks for the props. I'm going to be picking the subs up really soon and doing some sound dampening and stuff to finish it off.

To the two posts above me, I'm not going to say it again, but you should really read the whole thread before posting...

omg sound dampening is like a requirement with this car. After deadening it all that you can posssibly can, it rattles like an average undampened car. pretty sad i think. my friends 4th gen didn't rattle NEARLY as much my car before i deadened.

So I hear. Can't wait for the rattles...

Anyway, I used to have a sub pounding in a 95 Saturn. The Maxima is definitely built better than that car was, so I know that even though it may be bad, I will have heard much worse.

Actually I just got back from picking up the subs and amp. I only got 10" subs, but the magnets on these things are fregan titanic....they are HUGE! (Can't wait to hear them.)

I never heard them before I bought them either. Trust me, you will NOT be disappointed. They sound very nice.

I love audiophile-grade stuff.

Let me know what kinda prices you have found for them and where you plan on buying them. Do NOT get them online...too risky and no warranty.
