HELP - maxima losing power

hey guys, have you ever heard of this one? I can't seem to find any discussions about it: I was driving in stop-and-go traffic today and about a half hour into it, my engine stopped producing power. I was able to accelerate, but it was bogged down like it didn't want to go. And the transmission was not wanting to downshift to go any faster, probably because the engine wasn't powerful enough to make the downshift happen. I'm at a total loss on this one! I drove it again after it cooled off and the problem has disappeared (for now, at least). I'm pretty car-savvy but this one has me stumped since I just bought the car and it's my first Maxima. It's a 2003 GLE btw. Any ideas?? I appreciate any input.

Did you have the camshaft position sensor TSB done?

Thanks for the advice...

I'll check on that TSB. About the fuel, I have been running Shell 93 octane for the past 2 weeks (the only time I've owned it, just got the car). The engine is actually running much smoother than when I picked it up (it had 30k miles and I think the old fart that owned it b4 me used 87 octane). I can't imagine the 93 is giving the engine ****....

The car needs to run on higher octane. Try resetting the computer. May be confused from the new octane level. If not, check the fuel filter, ect. I had the same crap when I borrowed my grandpa's truck. Problem was a build-up of carbon because of the way it was driven and the s**tty gas he used. You can also try Seafoam. Worked wonders in my car.

supposedly nissan/infiniti have pending claims against Shell for ruining fuel pumps and other fuel system componets. this came out after people told nissan/infiniti they were using shell V power which they advertise as having more detergents than other brands. you may want to check with the dealer and see if they have had any occurences and maybe think about changing brands even if the problem lies elsewhere.

Great info guys. I took the car to the Nissan dealership this morning, the car drove just fine, no problems. Not sure what the heck that was with the low power. I'll let you guys know what the techs say, and I'll mention the TSB to them since they have proven to me thus far to be ignorant about them.
