auto---manual swap quick question
I read the how-to in the 4th gen section, interesting. Just a quick question; no fooling with the ecu? Do I need to change the ecu from an automatic ecu to a manual ecu? Just asking since 5th gen may be different... Thanks.

I'm curious because at some point I'm sure I'll be faced with a choice, rebuild my auto, replace my auto, or change it to a manual.

Emission tests? I don't think we even have that in Canada... at least not in my neck of the woods. So the sensors that go in the auto tranny will plug in the manual tranny?
Ive heard of problems with doing the swap on the 2k+ because of the chipped key. Like the check engine light will stay on forever basically even if you get the new ECU and reprogram keys? Is this accurate or not. I have thought about swapping and spoke with Dixit (BigDogJonx) about it a while back and he mentioned that. Is there anything else different from a 4th gen tranny swap and a 5th gen or is it just this chipped key thing. Thanks.
as far as programming the key goes, you have to get the keys reprogrammed with the ecu in order to start the car. so what i did was i drove my car to the dealership with the a/t ecu plugged in and then swapped it out when i got to the service station. took less than a minute.
i personally think that the manual conversion was pretty straight forward. just make sure you have all the parts. one thing that i overlooked was i forgot to get the bolts for the manual flywheel and the manual passenger side axel bracket. i'de recomend just getting an aftermarket stainless steel brake line that goes from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder instead of the OEM hard hydraulic lines. it'll save alot of trouble with clutch adjustment and installation.

BigDogJonx's, light stayed on because he had a auto ecu minus the the auto tranny module reporting back.
