Performance upgrades

I am new to this site and have to decided to concentrate on upgrading my 2003 SE. I was wondering if anyone could suggest some easy inexpensive upgrades that will increase horsepower without voiding the factory and extended warranty. I'm in the process of purchasing a K&N air filter to start. Will that have any effect on performance? What else is out there that I can install myself because I'm not too mechanically inclined. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

why wait for the warranty to be up..
i didn't wait, the only thing that went wrong was my MAF...other then that the car has been perfect...

2002 were the problem MAFs..i think they changed them for 2003, so they were not as problematic.

well i don't think is leaves you stranded...
the only problem mine had was my car would shut off if i didn't keep giving it gas...
so at a stop light i would just feather the pedal...
all i did was just get a new MAF and it's been good to me since...
about 2 years now
