Good and Bad for me
Good and Bad for me
The good:
I have all my new stuff for my transmisison, and my HLSD from Dave B.
I got the Jim Wolf Flywheel, and Clutch. I went with the 950 clamping force on the clutch. I've been waiting on the HLSD for near 2 months, but it finally arrived.
I will want to put this gear in very soon, as i'm eager to have this setup before next spring so i can autocross.
The Bad:
This is real dumb, flame away (yea i bet sooner fan will ; ))
I was talking to a friend while heading over into the city a week ago.
Not paying attention, I had my finger on the reverse lock out ring.
And went straight for reverse instead of 6th. I heard a pretty nasty grinding...
yet all seemed well.
I proceded since i figured maybe it's not bad. Well I drove around fine, performance wasn't effected, neither was normal shifting (yet reverse wasn't
used until that night).
So while in my driveway, parking i went for reverse, and it seemed to go half way in. I gave it ago, and i heard just a buzz, like it wasnt in all the way. It didn't lock in fully. I put it in again but heard the click. Now reverse gear does work, but now occasionly it won't pop in fully unless i'm pushing affirimatively into gear. Before it never did this, and i never seen anything like it.
I got prices and info on the stuff associated with Reverse from Dave B (some sort of bearing and assembly). I can get a good price on this, but I'm not doing work myself, and as my tranny case comes open for HLSD, it's going to cost alot. To do it twice (have case removed and opened) is seriously out of my budget. I do have a warranty though...
I don't know what needs replacing, and i know to buy the stuff and have top open up twice would cost me and arm and a leg.
Would any experts here please advise me on how severe my damage might be, if im just crazy, and give me some general advice on the issue.
Anything advice/helpwise appreciated, thanks.
Marc.

Mine does that as part of normal operation. If it does it all you need to do is let the clutch out and push the clutch in again. IMO there is nothing wrong with the tranny. Every car I have ever owned has done the same thing.
yea, see i think it could be in my head...
I'm just wondering man, what would it have took to really screw up reverse.
I was doing about 60 mph. Also, what about all the grinding up shavings in there...
How long would it take for that to be an issue ?? (Assuming it could be?)
I wanna do this stuff in about 2 or 3 weeks if time allows.
Thanks man.

Like Loops said... mine does it once in a while going from neutral to 1st, but if ya neutral it and release the clutch once, it'll be fine after... although, I've never had it happen in reverse, and if this is something you've never had before the incident, and its much more prominent now, it may be something to check up on, esp since you were doing 60 when it happened... in my mind, it just doesn't sound good... all the best with everything...
Once in a while I'll have the same thing, where it won't go into 1st or reverse. A double clutch, and then it works. I've had it happen with other cars, too. Never caused any problems that I'm aware of.
it could be the syncros acting up?? No matter what it is you need to get it out of your head. It is very common for all manual transmission cars. If it was screwed up you WOULD KNOW. It would grind while in gear or just not work at all. You reverse is just fine.
