Help with rear brake light change

My max's rear brake light has burnt out and I was looking to change it today. I looked at the trunk area and I am stuck at the very first step.
How do i remove the thin plastic in the trunk area which covers the back lights? There are two thumb size plastic clips and I cant seem to remove them...tried pulling them..tried twisting them but no luck and I dont want to break it...any help here?

Try using a flathead screwdriver, it should pop right out...
