I don't feel any major differences between the old and new stuff.
TCM (labeled M7) http://wwwcsif.cs.ucdavis.edu/~chin/...id_tcm2/1a.jpg |
TCM #2

TCM #3

Valvebody and solenoid

But you do feel a diffrence, it's just not a major diffrence. Where is the TCM and how long did your installation take? I take it by the photos that you have installed three TCMs in your car?

I take it by the photos that you have installed three TCMs in your car? Only one TCM. Three pictures were taken to give you a good idea of where the TCM is located. To make life easier, we took off the vents, head unit, and climate control... the TCM is behind there. |
Re: Valvebody and solenoid

my hand looks nice and chubby....all pale lookin too. gross! Too bad we didnt have more time Keving, we'll do the secret ingreident addition for your tranny next time!
|
Why did you buy a TCM? I ask not to be stupid but I would of thought that if your transmission is slipping you would have taken it to the dealer even though Nissan's service is bad. I saw a thread and I think it was you who said that you bought a new TCM and soneloid but I forget why. How long did it take you to do all that and was it difficult?
|
Kev: nice pics....you probably don't feel a huge difference because you already had the VB recalibrated. The tranny seems to hold in gear longer with the new stuff as you mentioned.
what is this secret ingredient Turbo95Max is talking about :wall: :) |
ye i dun understand... i missed the reason why u bought one yourself... is this original nissan part that they change under warranty?
and whats the ingredient???? hehe |
Your arm does look kind of pale, Mattel the Toy Maker...
I bought the TCM and solenoid because I have the valvebody recalibration. Jane and Matthel were afraid that they might swap valvebodies instead of just the solenoid if they got really lazy. Secret ingredient?!?!?! It won't be a secret if I told you, will it? ;) We were going to recalibrate the already recalibrated valvebody to make it shift harder and firmer than it already is. :D |
Originally posted by yo_its_ok My neck hurts from thinking about it. The tranny would literally "slap" into gear. Ouch. Isn't Don's VB firm enough ? **sigh** Kev and those blacklights. I think he is going insane.... Nope, those aren't blacklights... those are under the seat. ;) |

Originally posted by Y2KevSE How's this for insane... we had to rip off my blue neon lights to get to the TCM. :bonk: I never knew where the TCM was....behind the center console seems like a strange place to me.... |
Originally posted by UMD_MaxSE Wow....strange stuff :goofy: I never knew where the TCM was....behind the center console seems like a strange place to me.... We tried getting to it by only removing the lower center console piece (it's the one around the shifter/hazard lights/ash tray). Stuff got in the way so we decided to take the whole thing off. Made life much easier. |
How long did it take for you to get the TCM and solenoid when you ordered and how much was it again?

How do you recalibrate a recalibration? Where are you getting your information from? Is it a super secret?

Originally posted by Y2KevSE I watched Don in Texas recalibrate my VB... so I can duplicate the process if necessary. :wall: hehe...so are you planning to produce Y2KevSE brand recalibrated VB's? Only fi' dolla? \ :D |
 Nah, I can't do that to him.
|
Nice pics Kev. I have had my whole console and center console out too. The first time you do it takes a lot longer. Subsequent removals are very fast.
Have you run down the 1/4 yet? I'm going tomorrow. We'll see what this new solenoid does. |

Originally posted by yo_its_ok Kev, if its gonna shift as hard as when I modified my VB, it will be a WOT whiplash-a-thon. Mine was hitting so hard in 1-2, that people were saying damm you shift fast. I said the cars automatic, never seen mouths drop like that. I think the super slapping into gears, and the N20 I was running, and the long *** standing burn out did my tranny in. Superheated ATF....mmmm...the smell of burning ATF... :Bugs Bunny FreakOut Dance: -"...I hope you have good medical insurance..." -"... yes, I'm covered..." |
Originally posted by yo_its_ok I had a slight oversight, and the tranny cooler was an after thought after the car was at nissan getting a new tranny. Low Blow: At least it's not like YJs tranny. Pulling that sensor doesn't help at WOT. It has to flow more to shift hard....LOL...sorry. Enjoy having neck snapping shifts. -"...amen..." I have no idea why his tranny went out so quick. Level 10 doesn't do crappy jobs on rebuilds. I remember him saying he was going to send it to L10, but later he mentioned about the car being ready to be picked up (which made me think it was a local job). When you did your VB recal, did Level 10 provide you with instructions? I'd like to see what the difference is between theirs and Don's. Maybe combining both techniques if possible. |

Originally posted by punkdork I talked to him last night. First off, the shop did the level 10 rebuild... or at least they claimed to. He said when he took it back they claimed to have forgotten to hook up some sensor and didn't properly connect the reverse gear(s)...? He also has to wait for everyone who's car is ahead of him to get his junk done... how lame is that. A sensor to hook up the reverse gear? |
Originally posted by Y2KevSE Which shop? Level 10 or a local shop? A sensor to hook up the reverse gear? The sensor and reverse gear I believe were two seperate issues they goofed on... ?? |
Originally posted by punkdork Shop: The nissan dealer... The sensor and reverse gear I believe were two seperate issues they goofed on... ?? Hook up the reverse gear? If reverse wasn't hooked up, then 1, 2, D, N, and P wouldn't have been hooked up. The shift linkage in the VB controls all that IIRC... so :gotme: |
hmmm...that shop/nissan dealer or whoever sounds mad shady :wall:

Originally posted by Y2KevSE Yup, I agree. I also believe YJ should've gotten a Service Engine Soon light if a sensor wasn't hooked up properly. ye something doesnt sound right... all i can say is it seems that YJ is having some bad luck with his max... and it really sux |
All that work on the tranny and down the drain it goes. :( Thanks for the insight on the tranny rebuild. I know it I ever rebuild my tranny, I'm going to buy the parts from Level 10 and do it with some NorCal peeps. It's going to be a big project, but hopefully we'll get some practice doing Jane's tranny first. :D
Hey YJ, what Nissan dealer did you go to? Maybe you should go back and :smash: them. |
