Anyone had their transponder keys made outside of Nissan...

Hi ppl. Has anyone here had their transpender keys made outside of Nissan and has been using them??? I just got a key made by some local locksmith today. The cut is not a 100% correct but it works, the thing I worry most about is the chip inside key might become defected after awhile. The key was from Ilco. This key will be going to my remote start. The locksmith also told me that no one else can program another key eccept for him and all other keys will not work eccept the keys that was programed, is it true??? Comments and replies is appreciated. Thanks

What makes him so special?

If he can program a key so can others, with the proper equipment.

The guys is CORRECT. All keys have to be programmed at the same time. So if you add a key to your collection, you need to have all other working keys reprogrammed at the same time. I got an Ilco key about a year ago from chipkeys.com, cut it at walmart and got it programed for $40 bucks at Nissan dealer. They had to reprogram my original key at the same time.
As far as keyfobs, those you can you do yourself - and one at a time. The procedure is on courtesynissan.com site.

I was not argueing the point about reprogramming them. Only the fact that that specific locksmith can do it.

And you understand that specific locksmith is either an idiot or a liar, right?

I fully understand having to do all keys if you're going to do one, but there's no reason that locksmith is the one who has to do it.
