y pipe or headers?

1. peformance gains..i heard cattman headers gained 30 hp..but what gains does a y pipe give you?
2. i know the headers will void my extended warantee probably...but will getting a y pipe void it?
3.what is the sound difference between having a y pipe..or headers...is just the Y pipe not as loud?
4.price seems to be pretty huge difference..other than price of the headers i got a quote from my mechanic...and to install those its gonna cost about 6-700...when a y pipe i could do myself what do you all think is it worth it?..thanks

Headers IMO is well worth it... Sounds like a 350z after i got a 2.5" b-pipe

headers wont void any warranty. if the dealer sees them, they cannot by law just void your warranty. if your o2 sensor goes bad after you relocate it in the b pipe with headers then i would not recommend going into having it replaced under warranty unless you are very close/comfortable with the dealer. i had a y pipe on my 01 before headers and i think there is a world of difference and a nice little weight reduction as well.
what you get out of the headers or y pipe depends on what you have. is your 2002 auto or manual and do you have any other mods?

I'd listen to Fezzik.... the y-pipe is nice because its a relatively simple mod and yes, ya can do it yourself (unless your cat is rusted like mine is).... but if ya have the time and money, headers baby...

Anyways, the y-pipe does make the car louder, and yes, the y-pipe might put your extended warranty at risk, depending on what else happens when ya put em in (I think)... and I'd think that the headers would be slightly louder than the y.... but I don't know for sure....

wow i thought the 30 extra hp was from going from stock headers/y...to aftermarket...not from goin from a aftermarket y to headers...thats big

well most of the y pipes ive seen dynoed for the 3.5 were pretty dissapointing so gaining over the y pipe really isnt surprising. the 30hp gain you have seen is most likely at the crank so remember to back out the loss of the transmission to what the gain would actually put the ground.

how is the install on the headers?...do you need to drop the engine or anything? or is it just hard to get at the bolts?...for those who have paid to get it done..how much did you pay?

But no other modifications done between these two dynos. 2 weeks difference. Tried waiting when the weather, temp and humidity was the same

When u do it make sure you wait a long time inbetween with a huge fan blowing on the motor. I actually lost 2 hp doing a back to back run

heat soak should not be as bad on mine with the composite manifold. the first time i dynoed, the first two runs were almost identical with the 3rd actually being a little stronger. the car had been sitting for a few hours before it went on, i checked to make sure everything was up to operating temp with my harrison software but i may drive mine around a little more before next time.
