Now this is BS
Now this is BS
Directly out of the Nissan service manual.
Fail-safe
When the fail-safe operation occurs, the next
time the key is turned to the ON position, the
light will blink for approximately 8 seconds
after coming on for 2 seconds. While the
vehicle can be driven under these circumstances
please note that the automatic transmission
will be locked in third gear.
If the vehicle is driven under extreme conditions,
such as excessive wheel spinning
and subsequent hard braking, the fail-safe
system may be activated. . This will occur
even if all electrical circuits are functioning
properly. In this case, turn the ignition key
OFF and wait for 3 seconds. Then turn the
key back to the ON position. The vehicle
should return to its normal operating condition.
If it does not return to its normal
operating condition, have your NISSAN
dealer check the transmission and repair if
necessary.
Total BS that Nissan would do this. Censorship is what this is. Everyone remembers the post about the guy doing 120 mph and then his transmission downshifting or something. Perhaps this is why, although it is unclear on which wheel spin they are talking about, slipping or speed. Either way, it is total BS!

no exsessive wheel spin means SPINNING THE CAR.. your driving forward at about 40 mph and o crap hydroplane or you hit a bumb around a turn or anything that would make the car slide and do a 360. well if your auto tranny is in 4th gear rolling forward and suddenly the front wheels start to roll backward on it itll tear up your tranny so if it sences that the wheels suddelny stop the tranny will throw itself in neutral (shifter will stay in drive) in order to protect itself.
Nissan isnt trying to stop you from having fun or killing yourself they are just saving themselfs money on repairs..
Braking is a sudden stop too.. if you lock the wheels (abs? dont know why maybe it doesnt work for some reason) but if you lock the wheels the tranny is suddenly stopped and will shift into neutral to save itself.
as for the guy doing 120 i dont really know why it would downshift for him.. other than he pressed the gas a little more.. or pressed the O/D button!!
