2000 Maxima Automatic - shifting issues

I fear for the life of my transmission and was wanting some advice. At times when the car is shifting from first to second, it seems to rev quite a bit higher than normal and then shift with a clunk and a jerk. It has been doing this for quite some time. usually it only does it if I'm really getting on it, but occasionally it does it when driving normally. I did a flush and fill of the transmission oil within the last 6000 miles, but it didn't seem to help. What is going on? Would it be worth taking to a transmission shop to have it looked at?

You can look here for any technical service bulletins:

I honestly do not know where the best place to take your car if it is out of warranty.

did you get both TCM and solenoid valve assembly replaced or just one or another?

does anyone know how much it would cost for dealer to do?

is it hard to do yourself?

In the mean time if you want to protect your transmission...

When you sense the 1-2shift is about to happen, let off the gas. Why? Because it won't allow the engine shoot revs between the upshift. Otherwise use the '1' and '2' gate to upshift while letting off the gas. Yes it sounds like you are a fakAr manual, but it'll keep your engine to shoot revs between that shift until you get your TCM reprogrammed or a new TCM.

the latest thing that my Max is doing is when i start from complete stop and put the tranny into 1st, floor it, it accelerates fine untill about 4500RPM, then it acts like it's gonna shift, but it doesn't cause it's in 1st. is this tranny related or the infamous VIAS problem?

Try putting in some Lube Guard. I've used if for years and my tranny shifts very smooth. Any decent tranny shop will have this stuff - only about $15/bottle.
