Well I want to drop my ride and I dont want to bottom out but I still want it to look clean. I have been looking all over and I was wondering who to go with. Just looking for some good advise Thanks ahead of time. Sorry if this is a repost but I really think I am blind cuz i couldnt find much.

if you have money..go with tien or jic coilovers...if your short on money...get the tien s-tech with kyb gr2 struts(this is what i have and i love it, but one day im gonna get a full coilover setup)

 

maybe I should have mentioned that i have about 700-800 to work with

 

so coilovers are out of the question....theres a thread in the group deal forum for the tien s techs..for around 150...kyb gr2's i bought for like 250 a while ago through a group deal...but im not sure where the best price to get them is at now..maybe someone else could inform you on that....so say you get the springs for 150, struts 300..that leaves you w/about 2-300 for install...im sure you could find that somewhere...or diy!....ps.i advise you do not lower your car on stock struts...they wont last long, ride willl be ****ty...and will cost you more in labor later on.

This is a re re re re re re post but I've got Eibachs / Illuminas. Illuminas are $435 shipped on eBay. Eibachs will fit in your budget after that. I assume you are doing the install?

How low do you want to go? I got S-Techs, and the drop is real nice ( 2.2" frt and 1.6" in the rear. ). It's also pretty comfortable IMO. Tein also makes H-Techs which don't lower the car as much ( 1.6" frt and 1" in the rear ). You could also check into Eibach's, H&R's, Sprint, and Maxspeed's....all of which seem to be pretty popular here on the org. As far as struts go, there's a GD going on for Illuminas at $408 shipped. That should allow you to buy your springs, struts, and have them installed for that $700-$800 price range.

i know that the s-tech gives about a 2.2 drop and that is about as low as i feel comfortable going if i lived where it was flat i wouldnt be trippen but every one has fricken steep driveways and the damn hills in the city. my duddys dropped truck bottoms out every time. so like really no more than 2 inches how much does the progress setup run?

 

go with the Tein H tech Or Maxspeeds with the illuminas/ You will bottom out more with the S techs....

epacy - I just gotta chime and say that's a sick looking sig pic. Man, it's hard to beat MM Evo's on white.

 

If you think having coilovers are fun than your thinking wrong. If you make a change on the coilover than your alignment is off and your tires start to eat up on the edges. I thought that this would be great after I put on coilovers but its not that easy. Alignment costs $100 bucks a pop after any type of adjustment on my JIC drop.

Well, if you don't want to bottom out ,then don't go much lower than 1.5"
If the roads are rough and chewed up where you live/drive, then that is another important factor to consider (unless you enjoy a jarring harsh ride all the time). Go to Housecor's site and read up on the comparisons.
I put H&R springs on, with Illumina's (adjustable shocks/struts). 1.4" drop in front, 1.3" drop in back. Very noticable improvement in handling. Not harsh.
And with the adjustable Illumina's, you can dial in how firm you want your ride. An ideal combination!!

 

Ksport coilovers are like 740 shipped I belive- skip all these BS lowering springs and shocks and just join the bling bling club of the slammed Maximas :P

If anything I would say FLTA2s from JIC, I love mine, but they are not the quietest coilovers around. And everytime you lower the car or raise it- Toe gets out of wack and needs to be re-aligned. Once your car is slammed 3.5" in the front and have a Stillen lip like mine does- not many places will be able to put it on the aligment machine. I have bout 1.5" of ground clearance in the front.

 

In order to properly set-up a coilover system, you have to corner balance the car, and adjust all four corners in relation to each other, or you could seriously throw off how the car handles. And like a couple of people said, you need a new alignment everytime you touch one of the coilovers to lower it. Yeah, coilovers look cool, and probably save some weight, and undoubtably give better performance on the track. I wouldn't use a coilover system unless I was using my car on a race track full time, and my car wasn't a daily driver. Unless your seriously into actual racing, or have the means (garage,sh*tload of $$$, or mechanic friend that hooks you up) , I feel that they are not worth the money. Not everybody has $$$ money to fling out the window constantly for tires and alignments. You start f*cking with coilovers and you'll need another $800 budget for tires and other sh*t. Our cars have a funny habit of finding the bumpstops real easy. I've got a mild drop (Eibachs) with Tokico blues struts. Yeah, I'm sure that people have bigger drops and stiffer springs, but when you've got potholes that look like artillery fallout in your city, then you'd stick to what I got. The only improvement I'd ever make is maybe the Illumina's. Other than that, stick to a mild drop around 1.8"-1.5" front and roughly 1.0" rear (tein h-tech/eibach/maxspeed) and a decent strut (don't keep factory struts if your lowering the vehicle) like Tokico blues or KYB's or something. Just my opinion.

 

Yeah, your making sense and I have to say that I should have listened in the first place. I have JIC coilovers because my best friend has a mechanic shop that I can use the lifts when he isn't busy.

I had to do a wheel alignment when I made an adjustment and when you have potholes in NY, they are the plague. I have to avoid everything on the road when it comes to bumps, holes, etc. or the car just bounces.

If you have a crowd of friends in the car, it makes it worse from the weight and the bouncy ride you feel embarrased about.

Once more thing, I had to use tiewraps to hold down the plastic protection under the front bumper or it gets very noisy when you hit potholes and bumps. The rattle gets annoying. I never thought I would have this problem but its a sacrifice for the looks.

 

S Techs are a good compromise if you care more about looks than anything else. Ride quality isn't the best, but if that's your #1 objective, go w/coilover or some of the less aggressive drops out there.

Btw. if alignment $ is an issue, most Firestones have a $140 deal for a lifetime alignment, you might want to look into that as an option.

i have maxspeed. the ride is good, but it still looks kinda stock. if you want a noticable drop, go with something else. if you want stock like ride, ill be trying to sell mine for like 25 bucks lol. it has about 50k miles. but anyway, im trying to get a stillen kit, and go on 245 45 18 tires, what kind of spring should i get so i dont break my lip? im thinking progress cuz its a lil bit higher than s tech, but stech is lower but rougher rite? im not sure how to choose between the two.

 

I thought about dropping my ride but my Wife's mom is robust and my car bottoms out when she's in it. No joke. So I guess I keep it stock for now. Good luck on your new suspension MOD.
