I changed the rear driver side one no problems.. the rear passenger side won't retract, Will it be frozen?? What to do? Do I have to buy a new one? How much?

The only thing I know about the rear calipers is that they screw back to their zero position. If the piston won't retract by turning it then it may be frozen. Eventually, someone with an 00-01 will shed some light on this problem. Good luck.

 

'nuff said. If the piston cannot be rotated back into the caliper body, the caliper is kaput.

What i'm going to do is disconnect the caliper and then bleed the whole system... if doesn't work after that will buy a new one....

 

You could allways just buy a caliper rebuild kit and rebuild the one you have.

 

your supposed to Turn and push it back...
while you are turning it push it back hard...thats how you do the rear ones...
kinda hard but if you have the right tools you can do it

I did the dricver side no problems there... the passenger is the one giving me the hard time..... do you know where to buy the special tool to do it....

 

I just did mine....just use nose clip pliers (not cheapo ones) and grab the notches on the caliper piston, turn clockwise to retract the piston. make sure unhook the emer cable from the caliper assembly and loosen the cap on the brake master cyl.....good luck

 

the tool costs like 5 bucks. i just went to my local autoparts store. it's easy with the tool...

 

That's what I'm using.. it won't go all the way back.....

 

I don't know were you would buy the tool...
it took me a while to get mine down i just used a C-clamp and turned the thing...i forget what ya call it.
Then when the c-clamp got loose i would tighten it down more...
only tool i had sitting in my garage...i am sure there is a tool out there...anyone know?

 

I think you are talking about the front ones.. I'm talking about the rear ones

 

Major surgery required.....
Remove caliper completely, plug the brake line so fluid does not run out....remove the rubber boots around the piston, clean the piston area very carefully.....liberally spray penetrating oil into everywhere u can find around the piston, the ratchet assembly for the emergenbcy brake cable, etc. & try again.

If that does not work, dump the whole damn thing in a bucket full of penetrating oil or diesel fuel for six hours, then try it again...

 

no man...i was talking about the rears...i had teh same problem as you...

 

going out to buy the special tool....... and a lot f penetrating oil.. and see what happen.... plus brake oil etc.... to bleed the system..

 

How did you used a C clamp on the rear ones?

 

If you don't want to buy the tool, go to autozone (assuming you have one near by) and "borrow" it (they have free loan-a-tool). They have a piston compressor that has these little "plates" that go on the end of the screw piece, and the plates have "pegs" that stick out that go into the "notches" on the caliper, that way, as you turn the handle, not only does it push in like a normal compressor, or like a c-clamp would just push it in, it turns it too. I tried a regular compressor on mine and I was like... WTF is wrong with me!! It would not budge in the least! Then I read that I had to turn it too!! As soon as I got that tool, it went right in!!

 

I bought a rebuilt caliper from Advance Auto Parts for ~$80 last winter. A core charge was required which was given back once I gave them the old one.
It took them a couple days to get the caliper since it wasn't in stock.

 

U are definitely going to need new brake fluid to bleed the system.....

 

Yes I know... "Fluid: like Irish said once... we don't know how o write hehehehehw. just rented tool from autozone... will work on it right now.. and will see what happenes.. if not I'll buy a rebuild on.....

Fixed... the seal around the piston was broken for some reason... i put alot of STP fluid in it... and with the Autozone tool it went all the way back...
